    Best glue

Superglue gel. You can make a 2 x 6 cube block with a square pretty easily and if you ever have to change weight positions a razor blade will pop them apart pretty easily.

Ideas to slow down my car?

Why not just grab it after it passes the finish line? FYI the people in charge of your race are pretty stupid. It seems like a common theme unfortunately. Awesome build btw.

Creating The Ruleset For Your Pinewood Derby Race

Not really a rule but when packs, councils, and districts each have a different set of rules for me to follow. Also they simply regurgitate the same incorrect rule each year. The standard wheel base right out of the box is different than the rule requirement. Which one do I follow?

    Topping a ladder body

Thank you for the response. The derby has been postponed for two months so I have time to think.

    Topping a ladder body

I have made ladder bodies the last two years and left the body "topless". I use HVAC tape for the weight pockets and use a printed package label to cover on top and a second tape on bottom. The car is pretty rigid by this point. Now I am thinking of using balsa wood for a top. So far my...

Best Advice for new PWD Parents

Maybe it should be required that those who write the scout rules have to do the same thing. I bet it would solve many of the issues discussed here.

So much for their STEM philosophy.

    Possible Last Race First Fenders

Thank you for the post. I do the same thing on my cars. I guess I was wondering if the fenders had to be in line with one another. Would their position affect how the air washes over the car if that makes any sense. Or does a 1/16 in width difference matter.

    Possible Last Race First Fenders

This is our fifth year in Scouts and possibly our last depending on life. We qualified for Districts and I want to see if I can build a better car one more time. My plan is to switch our pack car wheels with Rage wheels for a better start and to build two more cars using fenders. The district...

    Red Neck Axle Bender

    1. Use drill and dremel to cut notch as seen above. 2. Use something to hold axle just below notch. 3. Use band saw to cut 1/4 in thick length wood block from left over derby body. 4. Lean block against underside of axle head and tap. 5. Profit.

    Building A faster Car

4 oz and 1 oz putty or 5 and 1 depending on body and accessories weights.

    Faster start question.

Regal thank you for the list. I found the council rules but not district ones. Last year they were different which I think is idiotic. For wheels it states: The wheels may be trimmed but not rounded, pointed, or thinned. Tread must remain original width. Wheels shall not be lightened by...

    Faster start question.

No we do not stage our own cars. We have only done that twice at districts and placed first and second the second time. I taught my sons how to do it after the first year when my son did not do it correctly and his car was crooked. It hit the rail pretty hard and on the next heat the car was...

    Faster start question.

Dynasty Basx from John. I used his wheel bore prep for them as well. Somewhere in the rules I thought I read wheel weight of 2.4 g but I would have to double check. If I was allowed different wheels would the rage make a difference? Just thinking outloud.

    Faster start question.

Thanks for posting. I didnt take pics of my build unfortunately. I feel that my prep is pretty good based upon looking through my microscope and the feel and sound after wheel bore prep. That can always be improved though. One point that you mentioned that I worried about going in was I left...
