    1st place in Districts

Congratulations to my son Ryan who just took first place in his Cub Scout District race! On to Council and hopefully another good showing! A huge thank you to @B_Regal Racing and @T-Bone Racing for everything! Couldn’t have done it without you! If these guys give you advice, listen to it...

    COG vs weight placement

So I think I may have a problem with my son’s car and want to know if I need to redo the body before moving on to polishing the wheels and axles. It is a 3 wheel rail-rider. Right now I have a COG of 1/2 in front of rear axle with 1.5 oz tungsten behind the rear axle and 2.0 ounces in front of...

    Cylinder weights extend above car??

Thanks guys. I have wheel and axle prep kid and will be tackling that this weekend. I also bought the tungsten putty and COG balance to fine tune the weight. unfortunately I was reading sites focused on Cub Scout races before I found this goldmine! I’ll be practicing on spare cars in the...

    Cylinder weights extend above car??

Before I found this page this year, my son has done a wedge build and we used cylinder weights, which are obviously much bigger than the cubes. Since finding this page, I want to adopt the ‘thin to win’ body but we won’t be able to get the tools to carve the weight cavity, shape the car, get...

Wheel gap - hope this isn’t a dumb question

Thanks Flockshot, I appreciate the feedback and encouragement! so I think I just figured out something else that I had wrong. The .01 gap is .01 inches, not millimeters. When I thought it was millimeters, I got out my spark plug gapping tool and was like ‘there’s no way’!!! LOL!

Wheel gap - hope this isn’t a dumb question

Thank you DD4H! I really appreciate it! one more dumb question. Is the gap from the center hub or the top of the wheel. With the 3 degrees angle/cant in the rear, wouldn’t the top of the wheel might rub the body if I use the hub for the gap. sorry, I’m an obvious newbie just trying to make...

First, thank you to everyone for all of their advice and willingness to share your expertise. Very much appreciated! So I have read so much great advice here but it has my heading spinning to the point I think I am confusing myself and probably missing the obvious! I have seen most experts...

Caught from behind at Districts 2 years in a row

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had the weight mostly in the back, COG was about 3/4 inch in front of rear axle. Actually sprung for the professionally prepped wheels and axles for him last year since I don’t have all the necessary equipment. I did notice some wobble after the first few...

Caught from behind at Districts 2 years in a row

My son made it to Districts and his car seemed to come out with the lead through the majority of the race pretty often but was always caught from behind by a few cars in the last 1/4 to 1/8 of the race. This has happened two years in a row, he would take the lead and lose it at the end of the...
