    Rail riding

My District uses the 4 wheel touching and rolling rule. The way I do it that seems to be faster from my timing is what DD4H recommends. Do your build as a 3 wheeler initially and get your steer set. Then install the 4th wheel and make it match the original steer of the 3 wheeler. When you do...

    Cutting wheels on a Lathe

Your right, it should be a right hand cutting tool. I was thinking of direction of travel. Mea culpa. According to Machinerys Handbook, polystyrene likes 95-250 SFM. That means 343-1000 rpms is an acceptable range. I turn my lathe right at 1000 rpms and feed slow across. I learned not to use my...

    Cutting wheels on a Lathe

I am assuming you are going right to left towards the headstock. You need a left handed cutting tool. Follow that up with a finishing tool. Of course, you could just do the finishing tool considering how soft the plastic is. The generous radius will give a better finish. Look here for the...

Dawes Family Pinewood Derby Cars for 2013

Nice cars! Now I know my son's competition in Bears this year. LOL! This year, he is planning on raising his 4th wheel unlike last year.

    Drilling Canted Axle Holes

Having done the "bent axle" thing and the Silver Bullet, there is no comparison. I spent hours trying to get the alignment right with the bent axles and placed 3rd out 5 doing it. Using the Silver Bullet and 1 bent axle, we went to 1st out of 5, 2nd overall Pack, 1st Wolves District, and 4th...

GPRM v12 Displaying Times Down to 0.0001

There is a data option on the Microwizards to display the new format which goes to the .0001 versus the old format which goes to .001. I know the K1 kit site shows using their utility software to change it. http://www.microwizard.com/k1cheap.html It is the N0 vs N1 option.

    Reprep graphite for districts

Has DD4H's graphite mix changed from 2 years ago or am I still good to go?

    Track time...

I purchased the Lift and Level kit for our track. It works fairly well. Use a long level to set the track up. It kind of sags in the middle of the lanes. Granted, it is not much, but it is there. Getting the angle setup right is the longest part of the build.

Proxxon Do you use the X-Y table? Other mods?

I use the Proxxon with the X-Y table. I find it is very easy to do the drill repeatedly. In fact, I recently got the Magsquare to use with it. Like John says, it is very repeatable using the X-Y table. I cringed at the price initially until I had it. One word of caution is to square the X-Y...

    Rival Pack cutout party

What a day! I spent until 5:30 tonight helping another Pack with their cutout party. The host is a very nice gentleman whose sons are out of college but still hosts the cutout partys for local Packs to help them have a place to use a bandsaw, drill press and disc/belt sander. The host is awesome...

    Going 5kidsracing Style...

The last 2 Saturdays have been spent on teaching the kids and Dads how to build their cars. The Proxxon TBM115 with the X-Y table got a definite workout with the Silver Bullet. In fact, I think I drilled 20 or so blocks for the kids. The common complaint was that it takes a lot of WORK to build...

    Pack race design questions

I was curious. I just talked to John about this stuff. 92s are in my future. Considering this a 35' Besttrack, Nitros are going on again. On a side note, 5Kids, I used your presentation again for the Pack workshop. It apparently generated some more calls to John. What can I say? I am trying...

    Pack race design questions

I see you guys saying go with Rages, not Nitros. The question is why? Stock car for the Pack races. John says the Nitros are faster, yet you League types say to go with the Rages. There has to be a reason. 2. What happened to the 93 axles? I assume there is a story there as well? Not...

    Polish help please

So back to Question 1, is it the same thing or is the 3M synthetic polish something different?
