    Weight distribution

you might try to get a better balance between the rear wheels. you might take out more wood out and move the weights over so they are flush with the DFW side of the car (which would let you get 12 behind the rear axle if you wanted to). This let my son get the balance between the rear wheels to...

Cog placement for ramp track with long straightaway.

Did you have the wheels all the way back (5/8 from the rear of the car?). If you have to use the stock axle placement then it might be hard to get the COG to be 3/4 in front of the rear wheels with 12 tungsten cubes in the rear.

    scout car cog and weights

For a scout car, you could use the cylindrical 3/8'' diameter tungsten weights. The weight holes are easy to drill - simpler process than cutting weight pockets, particularly if you don't own a router. And you can build a 4 wheel touching rail rider - one of the front wheels will be dominate.

    Wheel Gaps

Hi - Does anyone have a view they are willing to share on appropriate gaps between wheel and body? Set up follows: Thin (5/16) rail runner with 3 wheels touching. Rear wheels drilled for 3 degree cant DFW drilled straight, bent axle for adjusting drift wheel base 4 1/2''. (I know that's odd...

    Districts - Wood track

Big thanks for John (DD4H) - after polishing wheel bores and axles using his products, my boys went 1-2 in their pack and each placed 2nd in their age group at Districts. Our pack track is a well maintained 42'' best track. I was surprised to see the District track was a 30', 30+ year old wood...

    Paint and Finish Ideas?

The pack and district here are graphite only. I've found waxing the cars means that excess graphite can be wiped right off.

The "EVIL ONE" at it again

Yeah, the laser cutter is at a local maker space. Thinking about league racing - for the kids cars we stick to the common household tools.

The "EVIL ONE" at it again

Well, my Bear Cub can sketch out a ladder car in Correl Draw, then send the vector file to the laser cutter and press the start button. :) The paint jobs are a whole different matter.

My son’s GLFSC pinewood derby runs.

Congrats! Those early races were more spread out than I would have expected at districts. Any chance you can share your rules or a summary?

    Hi All

Yeah, I’m trying to set expectations with my boys...they’ve put in lots of effort, but do will all the other kids at districts. It will be interesting to see how much higher the level of competition is...

    Hi All

After a year off from cub scouts to due a change in schools, I'm back with both sons (Tiger and Bear). The older boy won his den as a tiger cub at the former pack, and this year each boy won his rank level race (we have two bear dens) and they went 1-2 overall in the pack (about 70 racers this...
