    Weight placement question

Depends on what you’re going for here. If you’re just wanting to win Cub Scout races, your setup will be fine. If you want to win league races, you’ll have to change how you do your weight. I’m sure if you search I’ve posted pictures of my cars and how I put weight in them. The thickness of...

Glad I did too. You make some beautiful cars. Now look at you, racing machine with all this knowledge to share with other people to get them interested in the hobby and make others better.

Bad track setups make me sick. Hurts cars and all the work.

Race Day is Here! Final Prep Questions?

Funny thing is, I remember this question being asked 6 years ago. But they were serious.

Race Day is Here! Final Prep Questions?

Prep has a lot to do with it. There’s too many unanswered variables here with your process. All I have to go off of is 6 years of pinewood derby racing and building cars. I didn’t really have a good prep until year 3, but haven’t changed my prep since then. But the last 3 were faster than...

It's like waxing a car. Once you apply the wax and polish it, applying more wax doesn't change the finish of the surface. I know some pro's will disagree with me on this one, but we're talking about graphite prep not oil!

    4 wheel tuning

Not to mention, using the slots given on the block, it's extremely difficult to get all 4 wheels to touch and have them all be flat.

I still disagree Wolfram with adding additional before you turn it in. People are missing the purpose of the graphite. The graphite's job is to create a barrier between the wheel and the axle to create a surface that reduces friction. If your prep is done properly and burnished well, you...

    4 wheel tuning

4 on the floor is silly to me. Don’t teach your kids about friction and it’s so simple to do. I would build 2 cars. Even if you can’t test it, cant’d wheels and bent DFW is faster than non. What you can try is build that second car and ask if you can test and tune after the race. People...

    4 wheel tuning

That’s what’s frustration. Your pack is basically holding you back from districts unless you make a new car. Very unfair for the kids. I talked with our pack master, and we modified the rules so it was fair for everyone. I did a seminar for everyone so I could explain why the rules were the...

Yep. We were prepping his wheels like I did for league races, so it was a pretty good prep, it takes a while. Be careful with oil. It is the best, but too much is bad. Lil tip that worked for me. I never used more than what I could get off of a tip of a needle after dipping it in my oil.

    Sound Deading Material

Regal said it best. You want to put the weight where you want it. You don’t want to waste weight placement just for sound and the risk of vibration gains because weight placement gains more speed than trying to fix that.

    4 wheel tuning

I can’t stand when packs try and make a race fair for everyone and take away the science of it and limit kids. So annoying.

Thanks for sharing. I never liked adding puffs of graphite before giving the car away. I never found it did much good. If your wheels are burnished well, it should last about 10-12 races, only dropping a little speed. For us, I found adding the puffs of extra graphite actually slowed us...
