    Race #5

I was just looking at the October race results. The basx am class is so impressive! All 6 in the final round averaged under 2.95. All of them! Congrats to all.

    Used Items 70g tungsten bars

I’m kinda interested in this. Not sure that I know what to do with them either. What are the dimensions? Are they ground or rough?

    About car body materials...

Not at all. I’ve been curious about it too. As I said earlier, the thinnest I’ve seen is .008 ( not doubting that the .0065 is available. I just haven’t found it. ) I calculated that a full 7 x 1.75 sheet would weigh ~5.5g. That sounds too heavy, so I haven’t tried it yet.

    Box Stock Wheel Runout

95%? Is that by weight or volume?

    About car body materials...

Using the published weight of .008 carbon fiber veneer for comparison, the 1/64 plywood panel is lighter too... but there are probably other factors to consider

    About car body materials...

I haven’t seen much written here about carbon fiber veneer. Is this material commonly used by the fast guys? Probably not in fender classes as the fenders are structural and add stiffness...

    Box Stock Wheel Runout

Well, I don’t think it’s practical to fix a wobble. Maybe it could be done, but lots of things could go wrong...

And you apply the veneer with the fibers running diagonally, the two sides opposite directions? After another look I see it’s not diagonal...

    About car body materials...

Nice looking car. I thought carbon fiber veneer would be heavier than that. What gauge are you using? .008 is the thinnest that I’ve seen.

    Box Stock Wheel Runout

I’ve gauged many stock wheels in my search for good ones. The best I’ve found read .004 runout at center of tread. Most are much worse. That number doesn’t tell us if it is hop or wobble that we are seeing. That is worth knowing because much of the imbalance caused by hop can be corrected with...

    About car body materials...

I agree with that. Strength to weight ratio is very good. My problem has been that thin sections tend to twist or bend. I’m a believer in alignment as the foundation of a fast car. Hard to get good alignment when my chassis won’t lay flat.

    About car body materials...

Yeah, bearing classes - razr or unlimited are very interesting. Not that I’d be competitive, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while.

    About car body materials...

Thanks for the clarification. That could lead to some outside of the box thinking. But I’m probably not thinking of anything that hasn’t been done before. I’m curious to know if anyone else here has tried anything using materials or techniques not commonly used in pwd? Success or failure, it’s...

    About car body materials...

I’ve got a question... I’ve been looking at the rules. Every class rules ( with the exception of MCR ) contain this line : Car Body ( the wooden/material structure that holds the weight, axles and other add ons) I’m interpreting this to mean that wood isn’t specifically required. It can be...
