Good 1st race for a newbie

Nice to see you over here Seth. As I mentioned this is where I picked up a few new tricks that helped us get the speed up this year. Still haven't figured out oil... but there lots of graphite tips here too. I'm going to enter one of my back-up cars in the April race here... but not ready to...

    speed tips????

Waxes are the only thing not listed (well actually Red Rocket is a wax). Spray axels of a graphite car with pledge. Wax wheel bores before burnishing with graphite. If you follow all the steps, make sure you're right at 5 oz., and have good alignment you'll have a good car. If allowed use...

    Reducing Weight / Truing Wheels

This question is for those of you who make your own wheels. I just got a metal working lathe and I'm getting my process and tooling together so I can try to make my own SS wheels. After making a mandrel to hold the wheels, I'm assuming I would make the following cuts to true the wheel and...

    CRC Industrial Food Grade Silicone

Walking through my local Ace (looking for a can of Jig-a-loo) I noticed CRC Industrial Food Grade Silicone. Has anyone tried this or something similar? The can indicates that it is safe to use with Rubber or Plastic.l

    Decoding Derby Lingo

Awesome! Thanks 5k. Now all I need is a video explaining how this all goes together. I'm guessing moving that weight toward the middle probably improves stability of the car with aggressive COMs.

    Decoding Derby Lingo

Who is JB07 or JP07 Racing. The various "_________ widow" cars were buring up the track in the April races with that unique way the lifted wheel and fender are contoured. Would love to see some photos of these cars!

    Silicone on wheels

I couldn't find any liquid glass locally, so we went with Meguiar's Tech Wax 2.0. Worked like a charm. The car won the closest final race I've ever seen to make my son District Grand Champion. The finish line timer wasn't working so we were judging by eye. We had 4 different people shooting...

    Silicone on wheels

Getting my sons car ready for districts this weekend and came to discover our legends is separated. What can we use to get equivalent results that I can get quickly locally? I see above the mention of ski wax. How does that work? Is there any special type of ski wax to use? Any help you can...

    DFW side

Left DFW runs slightly faster. This is because the Earth spins clockwise and there's a subtle advantage in holding the car on the rail with a left DFW.... It's true... ask any astrologist!

    Standard Deviation?

One factor that significantly impacts times is staging. If you just plunk them down for each run, you'll have good times on some and bad on others... the standard deviation will increase with inconsistency in staging.

    Silicone on wheels

Do these prep methods work for graphite as well? I've heard of using legends, but what about the others? Thanks.
