Hi fellas,

I am building another Model A derby car and I figured that I would show the process.

Since this is the second Model A that I am making I can show what the first one looks like.

First I picked out a toy at the store and took measurements.

I think this next car will have a standard wheelbase and will sit a bit lower. Kind of like the toy but with a "cow catcher" on the front. This might make it ugly though so the jury is still out on that one.

The first one took some stretching in all directions to make fit. Now that I have a better understanding of things I believe it can get pretty low.

Here are the parts laid out on balsa/ bass. It looks like I have 3 motor areas, 3 trunk areas, and 1 cab area in this photo.

Then I put dowels thru the registration holes to line things up.

I will post more photos as the build progresses, but you probably get the gist of things from here.

You live in Manhattan, right by the Brooklyn Bridge? That's cool!

Yup! I got super lucky with my place. I think it is the best view of the bridge from the island.

It is a great view. Were you there on 9/11/01?

Yeah. I was at a meeting near Canal Street about 20 blocks from there when the first tower fell.

Joe, that is an awesome process you have employed to build that car. You are a craftsman with your tools! Can't wait to see the finished product, again.

Thanks GX

This one is gonna look like a super chopped top.
Like waist high roof.
I may omit the rear fenders on this one.

The first car had 2 ports near the bore area to sprinkle graphite into the business end.
You can tell this was my first car!

Negative cant on all 4 wheels, and I did not like the look of the wheel raised,
so I kept it 4 on the floor . LOL

Laser-

Very sweet car and really cool process.... Gives me ideas for a build I want to do for our Company....

Thanks for your photos ...

Thanks Papa V!

It is kind of like a 3D printer.

Once the information is broken down geometrically then scale, material, etc is no issue.

I would definitely do it differently if I were to start from scratch.

This last year has been a real learning experience thanks to this forum in particular, and DT before this.

Thanks fellas!
