Thanks for everyone's help. My boy took 1st in Districts today. He and another boy were swapping back and forth for track record. The track was very long. It had a long shallow slope and a very long, level section at end. Nobody could tell me how long the track was. It was black and looked like a high density plastic or fiber of some kind, with red, yellow, green and blue lanes. I suppose it could've been anodized black aluminum. The supports were all aluminum.

Off to the Mall of America for Council race June 7th.

His fastest time was 4.048. If I remember correctly the fastest time 2nd place had was 4.052.

Congrats !!

At the MOA race we'll have to race this 2nd place kid again and it was extremely tight today.

Any idea what kind of track this would've been. Possible black anodized as the supports were all aluminum. The stop section was tapered foam with a foam bumper at the end. The stop area was surrounded on the sides by clear plexiglass. The center rail of each lane was a different color. It had a drag strip style starting tree at the top of the track.

I know you said this was a no last time, but put some clear tape over those openings, you'll pick up some speed.

I put clear tape over the top but when I put it on the bottom it wouldn't stay taught. The BSA letters are very thin and set up inside the cavity so the bottom tape doesn't make contact with them. The tape only attaches to the bottom of the side rails. I was afraid that if I did in fact keep that tape on the bottom that it would get distorted somehow on the braking section or even come loose.

I chose not to tape the top only thinking the air would cavitate underneath the BSA and cause more trouble. I even thought of just taping the top but leaving the hole behind the "B" open so trapped air from underneath could escape. I'm not an engineer and resolved myself to the fact that as much as I hypothesized about aerodynamics....I know nothing about it and dropped the tape idea. Don't think I didn't give it much thought and I tried to get it secure to the bottom but couldn't do it right.

Is it still better to have the tape on top only?

We were going to mail it in but I'd hate for something to happen to it before the MOA race.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Good luck @ MOA. You sending in to Mid-America?

We're just running stock kit axles that we polished, grooved and bent and stock kit wheels. I checked them with dial indicator and pulled the best ones. I don't know if we would be competitive at a major race without better axles and wheels.

that's one sweet car!

Thanks. Our rear fenders look like your fronts. Next year we'll make them longer and more gradual like yours for the rears.

Way to go DaveT! Now, aren't you glad I talked you into coming over here?!

I certainly am. We might move some weight further back for the next race. I was concerned about it flipping off track with weight too far back but you convinced me to be less conservative.

Just got the times today. Combined times after 4 races were 16.1954 for 1st and 16.2005 for 2nd. That's tight.
