Hey folks,
After a very busy weekend I am finally slowing down enough to post the results of our churches 2018 Awana Grand Prix and some pics. I'll get some video up too later this week. Between my daughter and I we recorded every race. Though she did botch one of my son. lol. She tried to talk to him and let the camera face the carpet when the cars dropped. ah well.
So the Awana Cup is coming back to the JNB Racing household for a 2nd year in a row! This time my son carried the Cup home.
It was an awesome day that actually started out with tragedy! Daughter Bailey's first race her car built up enough speed to power past the stop section, hit the end, launch over and nose in breaking off a front fender! Both our hearts dropped. Thought her race day was over just as it got started. She almost started to cry. I looked down after seeing a piece fly off and once I realized it was just the fender I breathed a sigh of relief. I brought the derby car workshop in a bag and had fast thin CA on hand. Good as new in seconds. Crisis averted. The ended up putting bean bags on the ends of the stop lanes after that. They needed it. They didn't have the stop section set up right as our cars slammed the bean bags each time. We had to be ready at each race to grab a car in case they wanted to take flight again.
The track is a major issue and next year I AM getting my hands on that sucker and getting it properly sanded and polished. The joints had edges standing up, flashing and i cringed when I ran my fingers over it. and it was like running through a graphite sandbox. I feel we would have been sub 3.0 had the track been right. Then when they took it down... oh my gosh... that poor track. They just practically yanked it apart and tossed it in the racks. It was killing me.
Unfortunately as closely as I watched out times I didnt write any down and my memory stinks. I do know all 3 were a couple hundredths apart each which makes me feel good about my builds and tuning. Though I don't think i did the oil right as the drop in time from last year was not as drastic as I thought it would be. We gained about .05.
if memory serves (hard time remembering the thousandths digits)
Bailey's best was 3.076 all but last run in the 3.07's (3.10)
Noah's 3.054 all but one in 3.05's (3.06)
Mine 3.034. all but one in 3.03's with a 3.04 slowest. Mine was fastest car by far of the day. we each lost a little as the wheels got chewed up by the track.
They let me know about 3/4's of the way through the day that it was obvious it would be the kids and I in the all class finals and my car was the fastest so I would beat my kids so they gave me the option of bowing out... it was funny... he smiled and said "unless you wanna rub it in!!!" Truth be told I was tempted a little. But I also knew my son's car had a couple hundredths on Bailey and she won the cup last year so I sat down and sure enough, by just a fender he won it all. It was so awesome and his face was priceless. I have it all on video too!!! that post will be tomorrow.
All in all our cars were much faster than the rest except one car which was a friend of Bailey's. Her dad did his research. They'll be back with a vengeance next year i'm sure. Next years cars will be hollow bodies and more concentrated weight and hopefully i'll be better at oil. Not sure I did it right to be honest.
So we all got trophies with the only loss being Bailey loosing to her little brother Noah. 5 trophies for our efforts and 2 very big smiles. Wel... 3 very big smiles to be honest. lol Oh my gosh this is my favorite day of the year!!! I love this stuff!!!
Big Kudo's to Mike aka Reece Racing for all his help getting me ready for April 7th as it helped with these cars tuning. And Scott aka 358T for turning me onto great method for adhering the weights. You guys rock. The support here in general is the best.
That's enough for now. Time for some pics.
Blessings!
Jimmy
