Wanted to throw a little American muscle on the track this month so I rebuilt an older car that I assembled in '09-

Quaddad was a big help in encouraging me to complete this along with some great pointers- wanted to say thanks again bud.

Thanks guys,

been a fun build and I had a blast racing it last night.

It did alright but I failed to include staging instructions. Chris and Dennis were great last night but I forgot to mention to anyone the car was setup to have the pointy nose centered on the starter peg, in at least the last two races, the nose was shifted over to the side of the peg where the DFW was tight/partially on the rail and when the gate dropped , the initial motion was an abrupt sideways lurch and then it took off in a forward motion. Didn't notice the staging on the first two passes.

The car seemed to run straight but varied by over 2 hundredths almost being overtaken in the standings by my much slower Charger.

Please don't take this as a complaint or an excuse. Chances are, had I been there staging it the car would have been slower/images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

Thanks Corvid!

I'm not sure how that could happen but if the DFW is against the rail, I don't see how there could be side ways motion.

No prob Kinser and congrats to you!

The DFW wheel slightly shifted away from the rail rather than towards it.

It's most likely a design flaw on my end causing the car to do that as this class is the hardest of all for me to figure out and I usually build and finish these SR cars last versus the other classes. I was unable to test and tune after final assembly but did get it to run within 2 hundredths of a SS a few weeks back before I tore it down and started fresh.

Imagine a SR class where we have to build and race the actual car we drive in real life or better yet, our very first vehicle ever owned! Fraid a Chevy Luv wouldn't be the most aero.. I'd love to see a Pinto or Gremlin on the track.

I've shopped for a model of my current car. Prices are running over $70 for it. For a Subaru station wagon.

Your Firebird ran well. I, for one, really enjoyed seeing it at the start line.

Thanks Eric,

Gotta say, your Charger has to be the coolest and most detailed ride I've laid eyes on.
Takes a lot of talent and patience to get a model that detailed and eye catching.

The race where our Chargers were in the two middle lane must have been pushing some serious air over the outer lane cars lol

Someone needs to build an Edsel or a 34-37 Chrysler Airflowand race it
rofl

Thank you, Corvid. I look forward to the day when the SR race is a two part — rankings for both show and go — so I can have a solid mid-pack finish. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

I love the modeling and detail aspects. I'll be rebuilding the chassis for the Calliente (a Challenger, btw), as well as building the chassis for the other model body I just finished, in the next weeks. Hopefully a more careful drill job and prep will find a few hundredths of speed, so John will be able to pan the camera to the times before the screen cycles to the next race. /images/boards/smilies/rofl.gif

Its that you spent some time on the details, plus it being something chosen more for the cool than the aro, that I dug your car.

Actually, Chrysler made a show car that looked like something outta the 30s a few years back. The "Atlantic", I think. Kinda like a Morgan. That would be a pretty car to run. Can't say I've seen a model of it, though.

Eric,

2 classes would be cool or themed classes. I'm holding out hope in finding a body that is surprisingly aero yet looks like a brute as well.

Reading up on it, I guess looks can be deceiving when it comes to aero. For instance the Lambo. Countach isn't that aero yet a Tempo,Sable Taurus is (not that those cars look cool).

Thanx for pointing out the correct make, I tend to mix up these body styles, even the newer Dodges are a bit of a "challenger" to figure out.

I plan to race mine til the end of the season and by then hopefully I'll have discovered the holy grail SR design for a PWD car that is fast and furious looking.

Corvid, I just saw this myself (been traveling for work). Excellent looking car !! I know how hard it was for me to get over the first build. Once you do though, I think you get hooked on this class. The cars look so cool looking down the track ! It is really hard to know how they will do in traffic. My "new" camaro beats my Vegas by 0.02 when running single, but typically is slower in traffic. All my SRs stage exactly centered in the front as they all tend to have the same pointy nose you are speaking of. I try to adjust for this by making the chassis adjustable left-to-right under the front of the car - I am sure mine are far from perfect though.

Looking forward to more !!

Corvid, et al,

How do you ship an SR? I have one myself I'm building and it will not take kindly to a Legends containter, at least, not like my SS.

+2. Do you guys ship it with the body on or off? If I shipped it body off could I use a Legend box for the chassis and just wrap the body in bubble wrap?

I use a legends style box that is slightly larger than the completed/assembled car.

The car rests on roughly a 1/2" of foam with cutouts for the wheels. The clearance left between the body and box is then fitted with custom cuts of foam attached to the box. Sometimes, a chunk of foam attached to the lid at the trunk and hood location keeps it secured down.

When the lid is closed I can shake the box and only hear the wheels jiggle on the axles.

Mario, glad you dig the new ride! It's been fun and I intend to keep at er in this perplexing class.

John (or Kinser, or whoever else opened boxes) can attest to whether or not my packaging worked. I used a box that had shipped computer parts, cut out the foam such that the car would sit firmly inside, and shipped that. It is big enough that it'll hold three SRs. /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif *Hint, hint*

Body on, BTW. I had intended originally to ship the chassis apart from the body, but in testing the packaging and the car, I felt pretty confident that the car could ship whole w/o issue.
