GAH! (Sorry, I need to vent to those who can/might commiserate)

I wasn't happy with the silver window trim (see pic below of orig. paint) and decided to break out the silver paint again and improve the job. It was as though a toddler got ahold of silver paint. It was quickly *everywhere*. To make matters even better, my son used up the last of the paint thinner, so I used the acetone I had. Big mistake. It ate through the 5 month old clear coat immediately. So, now one door has some silver residue on it, and the other looks like it got into a fender bender with Chief's GTX.

Perfection is a fickle mate.

Sorry Crash.

Chief, that's a great tip on the Sharpie! Painting the trim was one of many places I struggled. I made sure the other car I bought didn't have window trim! lol!

I know how you feel...at least for the past times I did paint a car....everytime I went BACK to do a touchup or slight change because I saw some imperfection or something I didn't quite like, more times than not I screwed something else up! LOL...sometimes its better to leave well enough alone! LOL...but im sure its really nice still.....

I had to redo my side windows because they popped off when I was working on the reprep...of course they were glued on the inside of the body so when it popped off I had to fish it out....I made the choice when I first built this SR to glue the body and wood block together rather than figure out a way to be able to easily separate it...now im paying the price as I had to cut and shape windows to fit on the outside rim of the car and glue them in....to save time as I was getting impatient (always a problem once this happens) I used small amounts of superglue...needless to say it ate the paint around the window rims....and as it dried it turned that clear plastic I used for the windows white (film) LOL...so now it looks really really ugly!!!!

But I guess ill be able to live with it if it runs fast at least LOL

Im sure the builders who have been doing this much longer have some really good "Bad" stories about mess ups during builds as they developed their craft!

Sorry to hear that.

A cool trick I learned when masking areas is to use this blue painters tape for delicate surfaces.

The paper is so thin that you can really rub it down in every little corner.
If it is really important sometimes I will spray a little clear coat around the edges of the masking.

This really makes sharp lines.

I like the Mad Max look myself but sorry to hear it didn't come out the way you wanted.
