94X Axles

Sorry if this has already been asked, but what is the ruling on the 94X axles? Are they faster than the 92X axles?

EDIT: Can't remember if it was here or another forum, but someone mentioned trying a combination of I believe 92 and 93 axles and saw a little bit faster times, but overall the 92 axles seemed to be the quickest.

It'll depend on how you polish and prep your axles and wheels, and what wheel you choose to run.

I'm planning on matin' some 94s on a set of Awana 1 grammers.

So, are these axles just made for Awana wheels? Are they not competitive on Cheetahs?

I am sure they are being made for BSA wheels (Cheetah's)....

On my custom wheels and needle cars I always run way tighter clearances than what was available with BSA wheels and aftermarket axles..... So I think these have merit, but I haven't tried them.

The 94 axles would surely tighten up clearances and stabilize the wheel. I haven't tried any 94's yet, but I have used 93's in the past with some success. I do have a set of 94's ordered from John and waiting for them to arrive. I would agree with 5Kids that they are made for the BSA wheel. Testing with the 94 axle will need to be done and like what has been said, there maybe some merit here. Time and testing will tell.

You can save a good set of wheels where the bore is a bit large, buy going to the 94's, and if necessary, resizing them with wet strips of sandpaper. Use grit 2 or 3000 to get to the desired diameter, then use grades between 5000 and 12000 carefully to finish up. (I also use Brasso as a last step).
I bought two sets of measuring pins, 5 for the 84 wheels, and 5 for the 90's.
I don't know if my clearance opinion is correct, but I try to match up wheels and axles with 1/5000 clearance.
After measuring a wheel, it allows me to take an axle that is just a bit too tight, so a little more prep on the axle and get it down to the clearance I want.
Note, when I bought my Pin Set, I did an over kill, and bought a box with over a hundred pins, which was a waste of money. Just buy sets if 5 pins, the center one just right, with two slightly smaller, and two slightly larger.
