I have been sounding off in other places on this forum regarding attracting new builders to the Amateur class.

Have the NPWDRL board find/assign a person to comb through our forum as well as other PW derby forums and find those who have sent in a posting or picture of respons regarding their son/daughter winning any kind of a local PW event.

Create some kind of a certificate of invitation and PM or Email it to those individuals.

The invitation should be an invite for that person(s) to enter the next NPWDRL event.
Give that person a "one time" free entry (i.e. waive the entry fee for his first time entry).
Packing instructions for Proxy entrants.

Don't know if it would be possible, but if so, give those persons who do enter a gift certificate for some DD4H store items. E.g. a set of legal Axles of wheels.

You could also go to a place like E-Bay, and sell an NPWDRL entry fee certificate for $1.00 with a link to the NPWDRL web site, or an exact location therein that explains everything ro the potential new-comer.

Great Idea! The way it works at my place of employment is if you thought of it you OWN it. I think OPA should head this up...

The main things holding me back are time and money.

My wife is insanely jealous of the time spent in Dec./Jan. on the AGP and the PWD. I don't imagine she'd be too enthralled with me taking it up as a monthly hobby.

As to funds, it adds up quickly. I only have graphite. To run oil requires oil, jig-a-loo or the like, higher grade sandpapers (I only have up to 3000), and, apparently, the DD oil video. Then (monthly) entry fees. Packaging. Shipping costs. And at least one model kit for the Street Rod class (I would *have* to participate in that... The class is just too cool.

) And, it just may be that to hit the top speeds, I'd have to buy wheels & axles, and tungsten, instead of doing that work myself (drill press, not a lathe) and using lead from melted tire weights.

We're talking closer to $100 instead of the $10 that I'm currently out for a kit, a sleeve of the best wheels I can find at the scout shop, and a can of spray paint.

It's not fear of a PWD ass-kicking.

Crash Enburn, getting your ass handed to you is not as bad you think. In the Feb race I placed 17th out 28. I thought Ok that isn't to bad. This months race I finished 32nd out of 32 cars. That my friend is a ass kickin. But you know what? I will be right back at it next month. Why you may ask? That I want to learn from my mistakes I will take my lumps I know I will but that's all good because one of these days I might be on top. So go ahead and jump in see where you land. You might be a little surprised like I was the in the Feb race.
