Alignment for Unlimited Class Car

I'm leaning towards creating an Eliminator (Unlimited?) class car (see my other thread).

How are the wheels set up and aligned? I'm guessing that running the razor-style wheels would eliminate the need for any canting. What about steering?

My searches didn't really turn up anything...

Yes, you are right.
No canting is needed. (but is allowed)
Veer should be between 2 and 3 inches over 8 feet, I have seen some w/ even less.
Use a pin on the NDW, veer is towards the pin.
On the Pin, it helps to put a tiny plastic piece on the end, like the wheel stays on the old Pro Stock or Pro Mod needle axles. However many don't do this.
spacing between DFW and pin SB between 1/8 to 3/16 inch.
Rear wheel spacing at least 1/4 or more, only so rear wheels never touch rail.

Back to my original question, or to clarify it, or something. On Wheel/axle setup for razor wheels: Are the rears (typically) canted? Is the DFW canted *and* running a bent axle to achieve steer (veer)?

Are the dimensions on razor wheels the same as standard BSA wheels? That is diameter and width across the hub (plus any extra width for locknuts or whatever is used on a needle axle)? I want to get started on my car, but don't yet know my dimensional limits. /images/boards/smilies/frown.gif

And, a week later, I think that I've figured out that "spacing between DFW and pin SB between 1/8 to 3/16 inch" means: "the track width between the DFW and the pin should be 1/8" to 3/16" narrower than the standard block width"

If I'm reading Opa's points correctly, the front track should be narrower and the rear wider than stock block, as seen in my car here:

Am I right?

Rears are not typically canted, I've only seen a couple that were. Front steer is with a bent axle, less bend than for a big wheel car. Hubs are about the same width as a big wheel. Yes the front should be narrower.

In the Eliminator class most every one is using a nail type axle. No bearings. The axle dia. needs to be at least .086
In the Unlimited class bearings are allowed and most of the time on a needle type axle.

As far as set up every car is very different. My unlimited car needs 3 inch's more steer than my eliminator. The steer is done like other classes, bend the FDW but you will not bend as much very little is needed. The guide pin spacing to track is also something that need to be adjusted on the car, like steer some require more space than others.

He's referencing horizontal spacing. PM me if you want to know how to never forget how to identify vertical and horizontal.

Horizontal?? I thought the pin was only there in case of mishap -- and would keep the car from crossing the rail... Mind... blowing...

Not having the pin horizontal. The Horizontal spacing between the pin and the FDW. How far apart they are, how much track clearance between them.

I have only sent in (counting this weekend) two unlimited cars to races. Both of those cars have Goat Boy wheels with bearings on 'needle type' (Jewkes, et al) axles that are sitting flat. With fairly aggressive weight distribution I ended with between 1 1/2" and 2" of drift in 4' - pretty classic numbers. But I wouldn't take those #'s to the bank, you just need a starting point for when you test and tune, iteratively adjusting some of the weight and the drift - that's really where we have fun (other than racing of course !!).

Car looks to be about 5/16" thick maybe a thirty second less than that. 5 cubes wide and offset to the non dominate side, DFW axle looks to be bent about 3-4 degrees.........................
