We are well underway far into our planning of the 2014 Mid America Pinewood Derby.

The official date has been set May 3rd, 2014 - with a special Corporate Event on May 2nd.

We just launched the online registration - found here https://scoutingevent.com/?PineWoodDerby - or by simply going to the website www.midamericaderby.com

Today I was just shipped our brand new 4 lane Best Track that we will run the Adult and the Kids Divisions on... we have already upgraded the stop sections with a Speed Trap for both tracks, and a brand new lift level system for both tracks that we are in the process of welding and putting together now... We have also overhauled our entire web broadcasting system there will be a channel for each race track - Scouts Track - Kids/Adults Track & Pro Track, along with much improved equipment for web viewing.

We are looking forward to even a better race than ever

As always if you have any questions or need anything please let me know. We are currently working on setting up lodging options for people.

Stay tuned for announcements as we get closer to May 3rd.

We will again be having the following divisions:

* Qualified Scout Division (those qualifying from Mid America Council District races only) - graphite only
* Open Scout Division
* Open Kids Division - graphite only
* Open Adult Division - graphite only
* Pro Stock Division
* Pro Modified Division
* Pro Bearing Division

We are contemplating a Open Scout Division - of graphite only... in an effort to include some of the very restrictive rule sets that some have to follow out there... but have not finalized - your input would be great.

For those of you that come to the event - we will again have the LEGO Track, the local Mascots, Star Wars Crew, National Auto Safety Patch, Concessions, Guest Appearances, and plenty of other cool stuff.

UPDATE... we are adding a division for Scouts this year... instead of our 5 Divisions we will now have 6

* Open Scout Oil Division
* Open Scout Graphite Division
* Qualified Scout Division (for those that qualify thru Mid-America Council District Races)
* Open Kids Division - Graphite Only
* Open Adult Division - Graphite Only
* Pro Division - Stock Class (same as Street Pro) Modified Class (same as Eliminator) and Bearing Class (same as unlimited)

Hey Greg, with the addition of the open Scout graphite class, can a Scout enter a car in each the oil and graphite or do they have to pick just one open Scout class to run in?

I'm sure your are right to a certain extent... but they will have to slip an oil car past me... and an Oil Car set up no matter what graphite is rubbed on the wheel is very easy to determine vs a graphite only car... The intention is to provide a division that is not quite as fast as the oil division and to allow those that have built a graphite car a slightly better competitive division and it also, as some have already pointed out the ability to make and race a car in each division. A fast correctly set up Oil Car will have times that are simply not comparable to those that run graphite only. I would HOPE that by splitting the division and it being a scout race that it will discourage those that are trying to "cheat" it will also very clearly help illustrate some of the advantages of using oil set ups vs a graphite set up, especially if some of those choose to build and race cars in each division. It will also provide more trophies and awards to those Scouts that race in the Mid America Pinewood Derby - www.midamericaderby.com
