The tool is of no use for its original purpose, but guys on here find ways to repurpose.

Besides being a carpenter square for marking axle lines on the bottom and sides, paint stand.. . . .. it also is good for making a leveling platform for your scale. My scale had a bump at the edge and so I was looking for something that had a notch in it and this worked perfectly. Never thought about how to weigh the front and back of the car before. (Weight on the front + weight on back)= did equal total weight. Simple. Thanks VK.

It is exactly that easy. In fact, you don't need two scales. Just put the rears on something the same height as your scale platform and place the DFW on the scale. If you want to double check, weigh the rears by themselves and add the weight to the DFW, and it should equal the total weight of the car.

I had a machinist friend make me a bunch of these. I had him put a rod between two of them and it lets me do all four axle holes fairly quickly at workshops. I use them as VK describes myself but it helps kids build better cars as we don't have to use the slots.

So you made your own Pro Body Jig?

Even with rules requiring 4 on the floor you don't need the front to be perfect if you're set up to rail run. If you want your machinist to mimic a design you should show him Goatboy's rather then the DW version. I am sure you know the shortcomings of the DW jig, having just an aluminum body for the holes, the holes being loose on the provided drill bit, and not being able to make angled holes.

I used my old one at our workshop just to have kids mark their axle hole locations quickly if they preferred over a ruler. Just tapping the bit to leave a divot then mark it with a pencil to see easily. I shared my Silver Bullet and drill press for dad/scouts to drill their holes. I will admit I ended up doing a lot of them myself and eventually I only did the rear axles and had them go back to the DW tool to drill their front holes.

Mine were done before DW got around to making it. As a matter of fact he sent me a "don't you dare do it, I have a patent on it!" letter. Apparently he was thinking about it. Mine works very well for it's purpose. BTW who said it cant drill canted holes? I have one that drills 3* holes quite nicely. It took some thinking but it does work. Again I use it for the kids who show up in my shop wanting to get faster, I have a more precise method I use for my own. Might have to sell it to Revell!
