Just got home from a weekend out in Utah for the NPWDRL Winter/Spring finals. I have to say, John has some of the best guys out there helping him run these races. Seems like everyone there does something to help out including Skippy's better half (Squirrel as she is known out there). Frank(egghead) brought some great food, Joel(Quicktime) does everything and anything to help the races run smooth, Jason (RadioActive) keeps us informed to whats going on in chat, Jerry Bailey(sp?) was a car runner as well as Eugene(ET Racing), Dennis(Cam-Car) kept the races running at a good pace by pre-staging cars and Roger(Opa) and Larry did the starting button duties. Of course John runs the camera but he does a ton before and during these events to make sure they go smooth. It's amazing to be there in person and really see what it takes. Pretty easy for us to sit at our computers and get a little upset at delay's or other small issues but when you see what actually goes on, we have it real good right here at the NPWDRL. So again, thanks to each and everyone of you NPWDRL members. We have grown this league together and I think we can continue to grow together. We all need to keep supporting the league and most of all, Support DerbyDad4Hire. I know there are other pwd suppliers out there but the more we support John, the longer the NPWDRL will be around for us to enjoy.

1 last thing I want to add, I spent yesterday repacking all your cars for the return shipping home. There are a ton of you guys that might want to really come up with a better way to pack. You all have great cars and there were so many boxes that looked so bad that i will be amazed if they don't get damaged. I am also amazed that there are still guys sending stamps for return shipping. Why in the world don't you just print off the return shipping label and save the guys a headache? I understand a new member might do this at 1st but some of the stamps were from guys that have raced awhile. There were a few excellent packing jobs! GS1 did a fantastic job as well as Spirit. I know there were others but those are the 2 that stood out for me. Maybe John can show some pics of there packing in the future?

Ian is right. As the league continues to grow it becomes more important for you as racers to take a few extra seconds to make sure things are right. Little things like trimming the shipping labels you send in, slip fit lined boxes and such save so much time. The more time I have to spend on things like that, the less time i have to make the website better and the videos better. I hate to see your cars come in punished because they got thrown into a box and just have some packing material thrown on top. The league will keep improving and growing and will do so faster if everyone takes a minute to do things clean and right. I am not griping at you , I am looking out for you!

Ian and John, To give everyone an idea of the effort about how many boxes were there?

I would recommend people consider the Priority Mail flat rate boxes or Regional Rate Boxes. Regional Rate can be a good value for online printing and payment. Regular priority mail flat rate boxes for the convenience of a free box and a simple rate.

Regional Rate Boxes are pretty cost effective especially if you are not shipping a long way. I used an A1 size box, 10"x 7"x 4 3/4" which holds 2 cars easily. You get up to 5 pounds so you don't even have to weigh it. I used Styrofoam hot glued around the edges to fil the extra space so the legend shipping boxes slipped right in the middle.

Order the boxes online and they deliver for free. You only get the regional rate if you pay and print online.

As posted in other threads I believe it was recommended to avoid loose wrapping material, packing peanuts and excess tape. I also made a point to label all the pieces in my boxes so they would easily find their way back to the correct home.

Get some Click-N-Ship compatible labels online from the post office, Amazon or somewhere. Print and pay online and you get tracking for free and a break on the price.

My cost shipping from the SF Bay area in California was $5.84 each way. Dropped off on Monday afternoon after work and got an email from the USPS it was delivered on Wednesday.

Ian, Hopefully my box packed easily. Afterwards I saw a couple of improvements I will probably make next time. One is to bevel the top of the liner pieces so the boxes slip in a little easier.

Thanks a bunch for your help packing. I can't even imagine the effort to get everything unpacked, staged, and packed back up.

We all appreciate everyone's effort to make the race happen. Anything we can do to make it easier on the live race support will end up benefitting everyone.
