I’ve got my 2.4 gram wheels. Cut to 7.5 mm tread width. The inside edge is cut square. Should I leave it that way, or would it be better with a bevel or small radius? Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you did that, wouldn’t that lighten them too much? If your talking about the inner edge, I would say no because the rears are drilled on a 3 degree angle, canting the rears so that they only ride on the inner edge. I’ve never tried it, so I can’t deny nor confirm that it would increase speed, but that’s just my opinion.

Lighten them too much? Yeah, that’s a concern. My scale only reads to .1 gram, so I don’t know how much room I have for further modifications. A better scale would be great, but they are kinda expensive...

Yeah, so does mine. If you have a good way of doing it, and you have a way to test cars, I would suggest polishing two sets of straight out of the box scout wheels, bevel one set, and leave one with the square inner edge, and race one set on a car, and then swap sets. That would probably be the safest because that way you don’t wast a good set of BASX wheels, just scout wheels.

Looks like I need a test track... I’ll be sending an untested car to the July race ( assuming I get it finished in time... )

You can get a scale for less than $20.00 and has hundredths (.01) measuring in grams. Mine also came with 50g calibration weight. Scales are pretty cheap now (relative of course) and I have seen them for less. I like mine but Actually would prefer .001 but that will be next purchase. This will let you know how much room you have when cutting. It's nice to know if that wheel is 2.39 or 2.30 when experimenting. Hope that helps. Theres a ton of scales on Amazon. Just search mini digital scale. Plus I think DD4H sells a great scale too. Just do t know if it goes to .1 or .01.

I could use a scale that goes to .o1 as well. Sometimes I get nervous when a BASX wheel is 2.3 grams, but then it could be 2.4 the next day. The difference between 2.43 and 2.36 grams could be bigger than it seems.

I do have a tuning board. Just recently heard about the bounce back test. I’ll have to try that.

$20 for a scale that reads .01 gram? That’s a great price. I’ll check it out. Thanks.
