Bench Grinder with Buffing Wheel Nail Prep

I have a Craftsman bench grinder with buffing wheel on it. I have high polish compound I tried to see if this would be better or equal to using high grit sandpaper 7000 12000 etc. It has a mirror finish I think I would still want soap wash it make sure has all the compound is off. But what I cant find is what the compound would match with sandpaper grit. Any one use this method or am I wasting time with this and I should just use sandpaper?

I don't have experience with this method of polishing. I would say the best way to gauge the effectiveness would be to look at the final product under high magnification and compare the scratch pattern to an axle polished the normal way.

Travis, you're on the right track. Consider which ways the machining marks are and which way the nail should be oriented. do be too fast to fall in the "same ol same ol" routines...
