Best way to drill?

I need to ask what the best way to bore my holes would be. I competed at the Mid America derby and I listened in on the pros there talking about and showing how to bore axle holes. My son and I did not do very well and I got even more confused listening to the professionals. They demonstrated drilling the wood with it laying directly on the table of this little fancy doohicky drill press. They also had the pro body jig laying there. I have been searching and have found the Block and some people claim this to be the best but the professionals did not have it or it was not being used. I see mention of the Silver Bullet through out the board here. How do I know what the best way is? In my searching it seems that the choice of the league racers is the Block but I don't understand why they were teaching the people at the race different. Can someone straighten me out here. It did not seem right to just lay the wood on the press table and bore it like that.

I personally use the bullet it is by far the best way to drill your bodies bar none!! Some of "pro's" in other leagues want you to use other methods so that you won't be able to compete with them. When using the bullet make sure that your press is squared up and use a fence so that the work piece doesn't move. Hope this helps.

I was there too but I didn't see what the pros were teaching. I did meander in a bit late though. It was nice meeting Daryl from DerbyDominator. He is a very nice guy. Wish we could have chatted more. Drilling with the wood on the press table???
hmmm

The best way to drill PERIOD is the Silver Bullet, or Block!!! If you want to compete on a league level it is a must!! Different people have different ways of doing things. But the fact of the matter is you want to win in league, and all scout races it must be done with the BULLET! This is the message board that won't steer you in to buying things you don't need and or don't work! If you want to be the fastest you have to use what is proven.
Welcome to the board! You got to see some great racing at the mid america race. Read as many of the post on here as possible and if something doesn't make sense or you need more understanding feel free to ask. The guys here are the BEST!!
