Hey guys. I bought anew aluminum best track off craigslist a couple months ago. The track has a lot of caked up graphite. Especially on the starting gate and curve. I've read that you guys like to use lemon pledge wipes on the aluminum tracks but I think this is beyond that. Will brillo pads or 0000 steel wool be effective in getting it off. I don't want it to become corroded. One of the brackets underneath the track have already started to corrode. Any suggestions? Thanks

I would like to suggest using a simple solution of Dawn and water to try and remove the graphite before trying anything else. I have not ran into this situation before and therefore not sure if this will work, but I would certainly be trying this first.

Ok I'll try that first. I bought the track used but he didn't take very good care of it. The good news is he had 2 brand new extentions he included that he never used. I use those for the test track I set up. Can I use a dish sponge with the dawn soap? Or something else that can break it up a little easier?

Sounds like you will be doing a thorough polishing on the track too... Magic Eraser works on wheels for cleaning... why not try it on the track too?

I know it works GREAT on my work bench getting all the graphite off the white surface I have.

I had a white folding table I couldn't get the graphite off of I tried lots of different cleaners. I sprayed brake clean on it. That worked great. Not sure if I would use it on a track though. Didn't think of a magic eraser.

WD40 works good for cleaning graphite off of the car body. Pledge works excellent for wiping down the track before the race.
