Canting rear axles when slots have to be used

Having a brain fart here as I can't find the thread where this is addressed. What's the best way to cant the rear axles if you have to use the precut slots?

Drill them and cut your own slots. If it says you have to use the slots, use them to mark where to drill and how deep to cut your own slot. "Hey we used the slots!"

+1 I do the same thing. Drill the holes, size them with a scout nail, then cut in the slots with a 1/16" end mill.

Yes, that's it! A concern though is the drilled holes will at some point intersect with the slot making the space where the axle sits bigger, giving the axle wiggle room. So... how to secure the axle position once its in but not resorting to gluing it in place.

Even the original slots are pretty tight for the stock axles. Once you saw your own slots up to the holes you should still be fine. You just need to saw enough to barely meet the bottom of the holes.

Another option is to square the slots with a hack saw blade and widen slightly so the axle fits while deepening the slot as well. Fill the slot with Magic Stuff poly resin - dries rock hard in 15 minutes. It is much harder and better than epoxy. Drill holes into the poly/original slots - done. Another trick I have used is buy a piece of 1/16 square stock mahogany and CA glue it into the slot. Ca glue the surface around the mahogany as well. Drill your new holes in the original slot. The darker mahogany highlights the depth and position of the original slots. There is rarely anything in the rules that prohibits you from filling the ORIGINAL slots with a substrate. These work great, stabilizes the slot, and allows you to drill straight and accurate axle holes while using the original slot.
