I got the call from UPS saying my cars are back, ready to be picked up. I have a question for pretty much everyone. What information can I gleen from these 3 cars, other than running the cars on my track to get an idea of how John's track compares? I guess I am asking about how do you guys go about taking notes and recording information so that it's helpful in future builds. Thx.

I am by no means an expert at this but, I keep notes on each car. Everything I do to it to try and get faster. I do that so that if I do something that slows the car I know that I have my base line setting to go back to. It just kind of evolves from that initial race setup.

record steer vers when you sent them, if the FDW is moving in shipping you need to do a better job locking in the steer. Keep one car at least untouched so you can beat that car. I would see how much I can beat them by. Look for unwanted spots of friction, listen to the wheels. which ones are making noise and why?

Write down the car specs for each build. When the car comes back, check it against the specs to see if they are the same or if anything is different. Then, for the next race only change a few things to see if that makes you faster or slower.

I agree but would suggest taking your fastest car and only make one change send it in and check results, if not better go back, then try one more change for the next race. At least every race your learning what's good and what's not, then apply what you have learned in a new build. Repeat, repeat, repeat!!!!

I compare my car's return times with my pre race times on my track, which I have recorded, mainly to see how they held up during shipping, and the rigors of the actual race runs. If the cars are not damaged or wheels/axels loose, etc. I usually find no significant time differences. I use the data to help in evaluating the re-prep I go through for the next race. Unfortunately I have not had much luck in improving my cars performances doing this.

Re-prep as a lot of variables. I was very uncertain of what to fix on my cars as they returned, as many of you I think I messed up more then I may have fixed. I found speed by buying 2 of everything and building a new car to beat my current first string car. This is how I truly race myself. Honestly, my first string cars had to beat a lot of cars to even get sent in. Many cars I build never make the cut. Kinda like Tiger. I used to try and use polish #1 again on slow cars thinking I may have done that step wrong, I never found speed doing that step over. I was always uncertain if I hurt my wheels pulling them out of the car, I have taken great precaution in my building techniques to protect wheels upon re-prep. I treat them like holding a new born.

My cars all made it back to me in good shape. But since these are older cars that have been raced a few times, I have decided it's time to assemble a new BASX, SS and SP car.

If your cars come back in the condition mine did, just pitch them in the wood pile and build another.
Looks like the car was dropped.
???

My Cyanide Blue car came back in pretty rough shape. The Right front fender had a flat spot on it about the size of the end of my finger. That impact was forceful enough to wrinkle the vinyl on top of the car. The DFW was also scratched up. It must have also hit the RR wheel. It had a light rubbing of the wheel on the fender where there had been 20 thousandths gap. I did a slow roll test and the RR no longer migrates out. I'm hoping it is a tweaked axel and not the drill knocked out of alignment.

I understand that this is always a danger when racing proxy. The part that bummed me out was that this car was .003 faster than any SS I had ever sent in to NPWDRL. To see it struggle to stay on the front page was surprising and very disappointing

I'll do everything I can to save this car but am not very optimistic.

I was present for the boxing of cars and did not see any dropped or damaged cars. I distinctly remember seeing Hurricranes go into its box looking beautiful. That was a awesome looking car. I remember admiring the great craftsmanship. I'm sorry that happened to your car Hurricrane.
I'm in a lucky place where I don't have to mail my cars. If I ever were to I would box them up like E3 PWD. Maybe he could give a tutorial on how he does it someday?
