I'm looking for a 2MT collet chuck, but here is my dilemma, do I choose the ER-20 collets or the ER-25 collets? Honestly I don't know what the differences are between the two. Both sets contain the same size collets in a range up to .625". I want to rid myself of the 3 jaw chuck and go with a more accurate system.

Paul,
the number is the overall diameter of the collet in mm. So the ER20 is 20mm and the ER25 is 25mm.
Might check with the seller on the max size in the set of ER20's. 1/2" is normal, 9/16" is available. I didn't see a 5/8" in a quick internet search.

If your MT2 tapered spindle uses a drawbar you can buy MT2 collets as well up to 1/2".

I would opt for the ER25's at least only because I'm sure you're planning on getting a lathe and I think you'll find the larger sizes more useful then. Have it set up so one size of collets fits all your machines.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess my recollection is not that good in stating the sizing goes to .625", I stand corrected.

Sounds like a plan Stephen, my drill press does not have a drawbar, but I'm sure it would still fit my press being it still uses a MT2 taper.

On another note, does anyone know what size the collet would be on Dremel tool? ER8?
