I use Novus 2 with 87106 Tamiya's for bore prep and finish with the cheap Hobby Lobby pipe cleaners. Anyone ever use DILL'S brand cotton smoking pipe cleaners. ? If so which ones, and what were your results ? Or have you ever used Dill's and polish as the complete process without using swabs ?

Outlaw. I'v only used the 106's they have a 1/8" diameter triangular cotton head. I use Awana wheels. The cotton tip is a bit tight inside the bore, I take an old wheel and insert the tip in and out several times. It sizes down the tips diameter then it fits into a new wheel just about right.

Now you come with a picture. lol
I spent 2 days on amazon before I could pull the trigger on $3 swabs.

Jupiter, I buy them at hobby lobby. They normally have them in different sizes. $3.99 for a pack of 50 double ended swabs for the 106's. Cut in half then you have 100. You can pull up a 40 percent discount coupon on your phone for a any single item sold at regular price, they'll scan the coupon right off your phone . Now you have 100 swabs for around $2.39.

Oh, I have some tamiya swabs,
left some out for the wife, mascara, eye liner, war paint, whatever she does in there.
I might glue them together for a demolition derby car :-)
I still prefer extra fluffy pipe cleaners "it lets whatever product do the work".
the pointed swabs do have a place in the prep.

Jupiter if you don't mind sharing, what brand/size of cleaners do you use ? Are they cotton ? Thanks

I haven,t figured it out.
I have bought them from derby evolution & DD4H in the past
& max V.
1 is a hair thicker than the other, I haven't figured out the Amazon equivalant yet.
If I order weights or prep or wheels from either I clicl on the pipe cleaners.
You can't have to many.
I did a test search and the standard pipe shop stuff & they are to thin. Zeds is the only one I haven't seen yet

Thanks Brian, great info, do you use them after swabs or as your primary bore prep ?

I'm still experimenting on the prep process. Right now I only use the pipe cleaners for coating the bores with graphite for Scout cars. Like many before me I've found the likelihood of damaging the bore is pretty high. Also, the fibers coming loose can pose issues as well, especially if running oil.

So for now at least, I mostly use the 87106 swabs listed above for polishing and waxing the bores.
