District race tomorrow

Well tomorrow is the district race, same track as was used at our pack race way back in Mid Feb. I have run both the boys cars and one switched the wheels for some with a better job on the bore prep, that car picked up just a little. I also have another car I am using as a test bed for next year. The test car just throw together with good preped wheels and axles ran right with the boys cars. Tonight I pulled my test car apart and am painting clear nail polish on the areas where the inner wheel will touch the body. I plan on 6-8 coats. I am then going to rub graphite on those areas and I hope to pick up a little with this addition. Last I got the axle bender a couple weeks ago and bent an axle as a test and I test fit it on a different car, I think I have a good angle. So I bent my DFW axle and I like what I see, so I will be with no testing before the outlaw race going to use the new bent DFW axle. I have an idea on where to set it so I hope to get a little pick up there. So with these two changes I hope to learn just enough more to be able to get the cars just a tad quicker for next year with just this set up. I plan on adding dynasty 92 axles and Dynasty Cheetah wheels next year. The only other thing I want to try an see how much I can pick up are fenders. I have a very nice design and have cut out a set for the front and rear. I just have to mount them on a dummy car to practice shaping them. This has been a very slow process this year but I think by reading almost every thread I have found many different things that have been helpful. One question, for those that bake blocks do you bake the block before or after you drill axle holes and cut out the body shape and weight pockets?

Thanks

Don't bake unless you have a huge wooden car it won't help . Focus on other areas like you have done , it will help more. Being a woodworker as a profession, as you bake your block it will warp ,especially if you cut the block to your car shape and then bake.. The best is to hollow out from the bottom or narrow top to bottom. Always drill axles before cutting shape. Sponge bob in my avatar is completely hollow because he was a giant sail, but one 1st in pack.

For the guys that say to bake your blocks...how many of them race here at the NPWDRL? I agree with Rocket Car dont bake the block. If your rules allow you to, I would suggest a block from DD4H.
Best of luck at Districts!!!

Well i am home, we had a great morning. The track did not have such a good morning, when they unpacked things someone had put part of the electronics in with the track and it damaged them. They could only run four out of six lanes and then only in test mode. So they had to write down each heat (51 heats) and we had to then enter the info in after the race to show how things came out. Overall we did well. Fewer cars than last year so we finished everything from first race to awards in about two hours. I was a little concerned on how the boys cars would do since all I did was add some graphite and that was it. I think the track was set up a little different than it was when we last ran but other than that we did run fast. In the end each boy took first in their respective den. Nolan in Tigers and Craig in Bears. They also took first and second in the district with Nolan's four run average being 3.272725 which is .00065 quicker than his brother who had a four run average of 3.273375 Myself and the boys are getting noticed and two or three people are looking like they are going to step it up, so next year will be as I said before DD4H wheels and axles to see what we can do, plus pre race testing on a track that a guy has not far from me. I also ran my test car three times and the runs were as follows 3.2475, 3.2709, and 3.2762 with a three run average of 3.264867. This car had no tuning and I think I had to much steer in it and maybe a little wheel rub. Here is a link to pictures from today.

The track was a freedom, it was 43 feet pin to pin, the best track is just under 39 feet if i remember correctly. I think that something was off on the electronics also, as the cars on this same track were running anywhere from a 3.35 to a 3.39.
