There is an option (a small check box when ordering these wheels) to prepare the wheels for NPWDRL racing. Is this to smooth the tread surface or is this to remove the fluting on the outside of the wheel? And for those that do race in the NPWDRL, do you typically select this option? It seems like these are the "most extreme" wheels allowed for the novice class.

Yes there is a box to check. I believe its called" NPWDRL option or modification".

On the V3's John takes care of the tread surface regardless. The NPWDRL mod is to remove the fluting (nubs or whatever someone wants to call them). Select this option.

Does removing them give you speed or is it just for a quieter ride?
