expected 63 foot times?

An Unlimited only loses around .0018sec/ft in 20 feet of flat on my track. They are incredibly efficient compared to a SS car. It covers the last foot in around .069 seconds on a 32' track. My best SS car (which is not that fast) loses .0037sec/ft over the same flat. I don't think tx is that far off. I have a new track going together right now, I'll wait to post my guess until after it's operational.

Now that I've had a couple days to play with the new timer, I'm more confident that txchemist is on target. I'm predicting that the top 10 cars in Unlimited are quicker than 4.2690 on the league track. First place might be 4.251 (May's winner) to 4.259 (April's winner). Can't say for sure on the fast cars since I don't have one to run but I had a 9th place car from April here to test.

Just finished leveling the flat section and laser lining the 63 footer in my basement. I still have a little tweaking to do on the hill, it's off by about .1 degree...I will finish that in the morning. Anyway, you wouldn't believe how much longer it takes to get that thing totally clean so the cars run consistent times from run to run between wheel cleanings.
Keep in mind that since John's new start gate system, on a 42 foot track, my times are on average .015 faster.
So...my SS that runs about 2.985 on my track ran a consistent 4.496
BASX running 3.003 ran 4.545 (only made one run)
Unlimited ran 4.256

So some of those guesses were really close!

I did not run anything in traffic, so that will have an effect. Also, the 3 sections that I have on loan do not have the Dynamat type dampening material underneath. The guy whose track it is did not want that done to it. When the cars hit those sections, it is noticibly louder!

So BracketRacer is nearly spot on with this statement:

My hunch is that whatever the fastest setup is at 42' is going to be the fastest at 63'. I only say that because it appears to me that the car slows at the same rate per foot of track as soon as it's off the hill assuming it's not wobbling. It takes the most efficient chassis to win at 42 or 63 IMHO.

How can I figure out what my car ran at 42' at nats? At May's race it ran 2.9884.. Sending in my cars every month is the only way to tell if I'm improving or not. At nats it ran 4.4683..

While the 63' track was very impressive, it was hard for me to understand how much faster I was. The only thing I could do is compare my position to those around me, but still, it is hard to see my actual improvement. What I did was find the cars that ran in May on the standard 42' track that ran in the nationals in my class. In this case, I was interested in SS. There was 5 or 6 cars that fit the criteria. I calculated the difference in time for each car. I averaged the differences and came up with this: it took approximately 1.4794 seconds of additional time on the 63' track. From there, I subtracted 1.4794 seconds from my time on the 63' track.

Example: Ghost averaged 4.4619 on the 63' track. 4.4619 - 1.4794 = 2.9825. I'm guessing that the car would run about 2.9825 on the 42' track. I needed to have a number to see my own improvement against myself, and this was the best I could come up with.

I used that time and came up with 2.9889 and last race I was 2.9884... And I didn't reprep from last race so I'd say your calculation are spot on.. Thank you sir../images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

I got between 1.47 and 1.49 for the few BASX cars that were in the May race. Two that were 1.485.
