Well Guys I have to say i needed every bit of advice you gave but it was all worth it. My daughters car took home 1st place winning all 3 heats and setting the track record on 2 of her runs. Thanks for all the good advice. Now its off to race with the boys in the monmouth council boy scout district race next Saturday. Check out the hardware /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

If you guys dont mind watching the video of the race i would like to hear your opinions on her race times and what i could do to get any faster , Thanks.

There were only 2 other really fast cars, they are not in the video because they werent in our heat, but they were a couple mph slower than our best run. I took alot of pride in beating them because they were straight speed cars, one was a flat wafer and the other was a really thin wedge , they were both faster than the rest of the cars but not faster than us. and we beat them with something that actually resembles a race car.

I was also surprised that the 3 fastest cars didnt race head to head for the trophies , they must have averaged everyone's times out to sort the cars, is that common at boy scout races ??

First thing I would do is get the guy staging the cars a step stool so he can see what he's doing! lol

Congrats!

So happy for you guys. Looks like her car whooped them all pretty handily. Congrats agin to you and your girl Great Job!!!

I think the post you made in the other thread may have made the difference, when you suggested that i go in overweight. i put the 2 small weights i had behind the plate i put on the back of the car and drilled some wood out of the bottom. it looks like it made the difference at least in the 3rd race

Thanks for the kind words, howeverI am only passing out the same information I recieved over the years from some of these great racers on here. Most of all I am glad you got to share in this with your daughter. I know how proud you were , and I can bet she was equally as proud.

Now time to prep to race the boys....

Going to rearrange some weight and re graphite the wheels , the modified division at the boy scout race has no weight limit so i was thinking about going up to 7 oz.

Be careful on the weight , especially if you used the light wheels 7 oz might be a bit heavy . You don't want them to get soggy on you. I would ask for a set of rules and restrictions asap. Enjoy the heck out of the win, have fun getting ready for this next race.

Some boy scout packs require that the length of the car be specific. If the weights are screwed to the back of the car it might not fit in the jig. I would hate for you to ge there and have to tear the weights off the back end to add it it else where. Think about where you add it if that was to happen. Low and as far back on the bottom as possible has been my bet result.

Congratulations to you and your daughter. This will be fond memories for both of you. Now you need to make sure you work on getting faster. If you have competitive parents in the troop like my sons troop you are going to have to go faster next year. I am glad I worked on building a faster car this last year. If I didn't I would not have ended up third or fourth. We had a lot of fast cars this last year.

Just wanted to add that I wish i would have built my own car for the dad race, my daughters car was faster than all the dad cars in an open rules class.

i brought my nephews tank car to see it get a couple runs in before this weekend and finished second twice and first once in the 3 races with the tank.

Anybody want to hypothesize on why the second heat ran so much quicker than the other 2 ?

I would like to see the car turn that type of time on saturday against the boys

I would hypothesize a "better staging", and I'll use that term loosely, as there was not much thought in the way of staging. Call it "luck of the stage".

So I am trying to tweak the car to race the boys on Saturday, I moved 2 whole oz. Of weight behind the rear axle. 1.5 oz on thebumper and .5 oz right behind the axles. I have 1 oz of weights on the scale next to the car. What would be the most optimal placement for that ounce of incremental weights? Dont have to worry about staying under 5 oz , it is a modified division

Your ground clearance still maintained with that plate on the bottom like that? You don't want that to skim the track in the curve. Going past 6.5 OZ also has diminishing returns for these cars. Also having those 1g ultralight wheels I would be worried about even going that heavy and causing flex in the wheels. Can you use washers now for this modified division? You could then flip the wheels reversed and use spacers. That would give you better wheel integrity on those back wheels.
