The last 2 Saturdays have been spent on teaching the kids and Dads how to build their cars. The Proxxon TBM115 with the X-Y table got a definite workout with the Silver Bullet. In fact, I think I drilled 20 or so blocks for the kids. The common complaint was that it takes a lot of WORK to build a fast car. HEHHEHEHEHE. The kids are definitely learning a lot.
I learned that the local Speed guru who has come up with CO2 powered cars, reaction engine cars, electric fan blown cars, etc. had a great year last year. I had a conversation with him when I drilled my holes with the Silver Bullet. He thought it *might* help him, but he had his doubts. He makes his own axles. He took my offer to drill his holes. He took the Adult division with a 1st place finish. Then he raced against the top 3 Scouts of a very large pack. He was as fast or faster than they were. Note, he was not Rail Running. Guess who waited to have me drill his holes this year? LOL.
Many of the fathers are learning about weighting, COM balance, alignment, wheel balance, and 5kidsracing workshop presentation. I am worn out. I spent from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. working with the kids on their cars. I suspect the times will be down this year over last. What a day! Lots of fun, but lots of work.
