This is probably a stupid question . . .

While watching NPWDRL races I noticed that the GPRM software displays heat times down to one ten thousandth of a second (0.0001). With a MicroWizard K3 (new chip) and GPRM v12, where do I configure this? 0.001 is the best I can get.

Thanks!
Tony

I know that on our setup, the software (v11) receives the time to the ten thousandth automatically from our timer (I believe it is MicroWizard). I had to make no software spec changes to get that for either our AGP or our PWD systems.

The first pic below shows GPRM showing times to the ten thousandths of a second (Notice the 8, 5, and 7 in the ten thousandths place). The second pick shows, and this it what mine shows, all 0's in the ten thousandths place, which tells me that GPRM is receiving only 0.001 times from the K3, not 0.0001 times.

I remember reading somewhere that the "new chip" K3's were capable of reading down to 0.0001, but because of the limitation of the K3 display, would show only 0.001 on the K3, but would send the 0.0001 times to the software.

So, could this be a configuration change on the K3?

Mystery Solved!

I normally test cars only in lane 3 and keep lanes 1, 2, and 4 disabled. Thinking there was something wrong with lane 3, I re-enabled the other lanes and ran a mini four car race. And what I found was that the first car that crosses the finish line, the K3 will not send the ten thousands place digit, so GPRM populates that field with a “0”. But for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place cars, the K3 will send the ten thousandth place digit, and GPRM displays it for those cars. I was also able to verify this in GPRM’s HardwareDebug.log, that the K3 does not send the ten thousandths place digit for the first place car.

To verify that it wasn't just my timer with this issue, I watched the NPWDRL January race again, and sure enough, the first place car always has a “0” in the ten thousandths place field.

This must be the way the K3 is designed/programmed. Don’t know if there is any way to re-program it, but for now, I can live with it.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Tony

I heard back from Stuart Ferguson. He said he found the problem with the K3. He checked the K2 and it doesn't have the problem. He has fixed the problem and is offering a free update for the K3. You will need to call MicroWizard at 888-693-3729 to get an RMA number. You pay to ship to MicroWizard, they pay for standard ground return shipping.
