grooves or not

-Any experience or opinions about using DD4 92s with the groove vs no groove?
-any stability differences? (assuming wheel gap is constant)
-any preference of lube types?
The car is for a scout race... wheels are limited by the rules but axles are not.

Get the grooved axles they retain more lubrication resulting in a faster car. These are the ones you want.

You know I'm the black sheep here by saying for my sons scout races I really liked how the 92 w/out cut outs performed due to it seemed to be more stable. I went with them because our rules said no cutout axles. Once the steer was set it stayed put over and over and over including a few crashes due to rough stop sections on the tracks. If I had a choice I'd probably go with the x's because they're faster but IMO in most pack races it won't matter. We were several car lengths in front of 2nd place and I mean like 5 or more. All that being said if your rules say you can use them then you should. I would have.
