We had sent 4 cars to Mid America, they were all set up just a little different for learning purposes. We were happy with all the cars, BUT..

Has anyone felt or gut feeling known they left some time on the track? My plan is once we get cars back to look, spec, measure, tweek and send to nationals and hope for a better time.

Although, car is and will remain for now setting on Nitros so it would have to run SP instead of SS.

hmmm

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, J

Every time my cars goes down the track I know I left some time on the track. I just look at the cars ahead of me to verify. Just gives me something to shoot for, that's all. Even if I were running in front I would still be looking for more speed.

I started recording specs before and after the race and then as you said you can then tweak the car to see what happens. Call it a race log if you will, it works!

At this point everything is new to me and I’m just trying to put a car together that will hopefully compete.

What do you log? I think this could be a good habit for me at least give me something to build on.

Some of the stuff logged are wheel base, CoG, wheel gap spacing, wheel bore prep used, axle prep used, car drift or steer before and after the race. Some of this may seem trivial but it helps keeps things organized if you are sending in multiple cars. I print a copy of the latest race times and keep it with the car stats and make notes as to what I'd like to try based off the last race, i.e. adjust steer, tighten wheel gaps, re-prep etc... It's what works for me. You'll need to develop your own way of doing things.

If you don't know where you've been, how do you know where you're going?

This can also be said as: If you don't know what you've done, how do you know what to change? And when you do make adjustments do it one item at a time. I used this motto when I was crew chief for a race team. Works well.
