Headless axle question

So in the "Street Pro" class I see headless axle's mentioned.
what exactly is that and how would that be accomplished.

I understand the head is cut off ? How do you retain the wheel ?

And does the rule mean they must measure "at least" .084 at the tip ?

Wouldn't we want the diameter to be closer to , say .093 like the axle's from DD4H ?

Some guys make their own axles. THey use different materials as retainers. The problem is that it is impossible to check axle diameter. Yes the tip has to be at least .084.

Also PineCar makes single axles, i.e. all the way through the body (of course they assume the axle will be tucked in the slot).
I don't know what kind of metal they use, or if it will take a polishing process like we do with nail axles. One day I will experiment, OR has someone already tried?

I assume you have your axles made from a high grade material. Why not make a headless axle out of the same material, with perfect OD, both .084 for Elim, or .092 for SP (or even in the future for SS). Making axles that way for SS or SP without heads would really speed up the RE-Prep process, especially on the NDW on the front, reducing the time to set the veer.

As an experiment, I bought some tubing similar to what we use on Unlim, but with a larger ID, which fits perfect over both .084 and .092. I then used this tubing on the ends of a PineCar solid axle, and it worked perfectly, EXCEPT those axles are made of a low grade material, and dont take a decent shine. However, the axle (about 2+ inches long) still fit in a dremmel, and I was able to prep it like I would a nail type axle. My car would never have placed in the top 5, but i think it would have if the material had been the same grade as your good axles.

I wanted to get a car together using what I had and Pine car axles were one of the choices next to stock BSA Axles... So I will not have to waste time on that idea... Once I am able to purchase wheels and axles from DD4H I will not worry.. I just want to get a car built to run and be out there and slowly build up a good car to compete... I look at a slow car can only get faster but the learning experience gained from doing it old school to Way Cool .. Will be fun ..
