How do you burnish the wheel bores with graphite?

I have a set of wheels preped just like the instructions say, as well I watched the video. I put a pipe cleaner with some graphite on it and ran it in the drill at medium speed but i am not sure that did anything. I see things on other threads about using a walgreens q tip shaft to burnish the graphite in the bore, will this mess up the polish job? I thought that the shaft would be a tight fit and mess up the polish job and or the bore. I want to pull the wheels and do this right and see if i can pick up any speed on the boys cars.

As a piggyback question to the OP's:

If you are going to burnish the bores with graphite, is there any point to polishing them with Liquid Glass, Red Rocket, or any fancy wax?

When I've burnished with a Q-tip, it basically impregnates the graphite into the bore and it's all black. Looks to me like the wax wouldn't be doing any good since it's under the graphite.

I understand how the wax/oil interface works, since the oil film on the axle is actually riding on the waxed surface.

Am I off base here?

Using the wax first just gives the graphite a slicker surface also would not the wax hold the graphite in the wheel to give you longer life out of your prep job?
