How many days out before you add oil?

Race is on Saturday, axles are in and car is dialed in at 4 inches over 4 feet. Too much or about right? Racing on unknown.. may be a homemade wood composite track or an all aluminum best track. I wanted to glue my fenders on and give them time to set up on each side. Is it too early to add oil tonight?

Add oil ASAP!! You should have oil in the car as you mend the wheels and the axles. Before you tune it.

4" in 4' is fine.

Correct. I won't put the car together and tune until the night before I ship it, but I do add oil to axle axle before it enters the wheel. 4" over 4' is a safe bet. What's your COM?

Should I get the 20-30 second spin on each wheel? I am getting about 10-12 right now.../images/boards/smilies/confused.gif
I followed all the prep steps.. using 91 axles with chain saver .. then legend

Wheels won't spin that long on oil. On graphite you can get 30 seconds.

I guess I should clarify te majority of my weight sits behind my back wheel,, with some just in front. My center of gravity is actually at about 3/4 inc in front of my back wheels. Before I add fenders.

Your COM is fine.

To add pics, the method that most of us use is to post pics to Photobucket.com, and then link to the pic using the tree icon in the menu above where you are typing.

In tuning I am coming in at 3 1/2 over 4 to about 4 over 4. I am using a hillbilly method to do so by using painters tape and taping one end to the counter and moving down four feet ,pulling tight and taping that end at the same distance off the edge. I am the coming off the tape at 4 inches by 1 ft long with a strip of masking tape and then using another strip of painters tape to mark the other edge. . Will this give me a close enough guess? And is it better to be slightly under on my drift?

You need to do the equivalent of about 10 runs before a newly oiled car reaches it's best time.
If I am in a hurry, or time is too tight, I carefully use a low PSI air push against the outer edge of the wheels. Don't let the high velocity air come any where close to the axles/bores!! Just against the outside edge.

about 3/4 inch in front of center line rear axle. Also.. I used 1 -2 drops of oil on each axle will I need to oil again before the race?

Nope, oil will stay on for a long time. Your wheel and axle prep will wear out first. That can take several months to more than a year sometimes.
