Krytox 100 discontinued?

Do you live in Ontario? It's less than 3 hours from Kent City to Ford Field. We West Michigan folks drove to your side last year in an ice storm. Come on over. Don't be shy. There is a regional race in the Ypsi area. I haven't seen the info on it yet either. It's usually mid April.

Well I certainly thank you for the invite. But it’s more of a matter of owning 2 clunkers I wouldn’t trust to drive that far and the $ in gas alone is not in the budget. Without giving too many boring details... our household is in THAT season of life where pennies seriously matter.
Plus I know our church isn’t committed to that race so the bus won’t be going either since there is one local.

Jimmy, Hope you win the east regional. let us know what kind of times you run. We've all been there and completely understand! If you've been at that race I've heard a rumor it's A triple elimination. What type of track/electronics do they have? That sounds like it would take forever.

Triple elimination... yeah that could be a long day, especially if a lot of churches send kids.
I’ll see how it goes and get you the info. No clue the track set up though I’d be surprised if it’s not a Best Track.

Thanks Jimmy, that is helpful. How did I not notice the Holy Water before? I've actually never used oil yet, but have some of DD4H Krytox mix to use on a BASX car I'm considering sending for a league race.

This will be interesting. Like I said, I'm very close to getting our pack to allow oil next year. Oils costing more than Krytox may prevent families from going that route.

Are there any alternatives out there that are more affordable for the majority of scout families?

There are a number of "dry lubes" you can get at Lowes/Home Depot/Ace Hardware that will work fine. Are they as fast as Krytox? Maybe/maybe not, but with the level of effort most folks put into their cars, some good old silicone spray would be fine, and allowing oil would make a lot of people happy. Just specify it can't be dripping on the track if it makes them feel better. Heck, if some oil DOES drop, who cares? It wipes right up. Try that with graphite.

Our races pit the night beforehand. If a car has excess of any kind of lube, address it at pit time. Make sure your pit crew is looking for it. I give them a checklist for each car so if anyone has an objection, we can go to the car checklist and see who and what was checked. It lists car builder, car name and number, measured weight, etc. etc. One of the checks is a fragile/wet/sticky/messy material check. Each check has a station setup for the crew to use...obviously this one is just a visual. Rules state that once the car enters the pit is can't be touched. So if it's not dripping then, races should be ok.

The number one thing is having trained people who know what to look for. That's improving, but slowly.
