Lube service before the race?

Is there any lube service before the race assuming I write instructions and supply the lube? I know it used to be like this but I don't know the new rules too well.

The best way to get this done is to pm someone who will be live. Asking John to "tune" your car is a $100 charge on his web site. If you are running oil, adding oil will not result in positive results. Asking someone to do a full reprep is very time consuming and most llikely will not occur. Checking steer can be done quickly but testing and tuning are a different thing. Basic rule for steer on a SS is 8" over 8'. I am happy to check steer but without doing test runs its just a gerneal idea and not something that will guarantee a better running car. Other than to ensure it does not wiggle.

I was just kidding about adjusting steer. But I wasn't about lube. The other place I used to run would lube your car if you sent instructions and lube. I just wanted to know if this service is offered and what it would cost if any? If no, then so be it. I would like an official answer so next time I won't send my lube in the mail.

No problem Kenny they will do it.
ok

Since I had it boxed Sunday night it will have been almost a week for my oil to evaporate. So I decided to have it lubed before the race.

Just an observation and correct me if I am wrong here, but oil does not evaporate, unless it's not an oil to begin with.
hmmm
(Secret recipe???) Any oil I have ever worked with has not ever evaporated, It only seems to migrate.

Here is the specs from Dupont. This is without the "secret additive"
  • Evaporation Loss, ASTM D972 Modified, Volatility; 22 hr; 66°C
  • Evaporation Loss, ASTM D972 Modified, Volatility; 22 hr; 121°C

So... any volatile materials in the oil would evaporate off in 22 hours at 66°C (151°F) That's a little toasty. I might be worried about the wheels at this point.

I get too analytical sometimes...

pay no attention, I mean no harm.

That's tested at 150.8 degrees /22 hours at 11%. So do you think there is evaporation below that temperature or not? I think it's reasonable to expect 5.5% evaporation at 75.4 degrees at 22 hours. Take that into 3 to 5 days shipping and your adding viscosity through evaporation. Who really knows exactly how much? But I'll take the chance of a fresh relube over a car lubed 5 days prior to the race. I don't have the option to do a fresh lube right before a race then run it 10 times down the track and put it in the mix to be raced within hours.

I've never had any issues with my oil prep lasting until it makes it to Utah. Often times my car comes back a tad faster than when it left. Grant you I'm not setting at the top of the charts either!

If I had a track I would know for sure. Most of my ideas and thoughts are just things I run around in my head. If I knew everything you all would be addressing me as DD4H. Now if John was to email me and tell me I'm an idiot for asking for a relube then that would be all I need. John I'll be waiting for the email. /images/boards/smilies/cool.gif

I usually get about 4-6 weeks out of my oil before I have to re-prep. I wouldn't think a week
would be a big deal.
