Ok, thinking about making a car to race in this class, let me get this straight....

I don't need to use a block from the scout kit, I can use Basswood instead? As long as it's wood...

I can use scout kit wheels or revell wheels, or any unmodified BSA wheel, even from an old kit?

I can only use axles from the scout kit, no revell or aftermarket axles...

And... I can use fenders....

I like this class, but it seems to have a mixed bag of rules. I was expecting to only be able to use parts from Scout Kit 17006.

Can't wait to get started at any rate!

Well, think about it...

- There's not a huge advantage to using one piece of wood over another? Save a little weight? Sure, maybe. But if you're cutting a ladder chassis anyhow, the difference is minimal.

- If you're going with unmodified wheels, modern BSA wheels are gonna be the best. If you wanna run pre-2009 that have not been lightened, well, best of luck! /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

- Having to clean up crappy axles is half the fun! /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

- Plenty of fenders at scout races, right..?

I'm wanting to try this class also. We won't git our car back till after districts 3/12.(Impounded till then) I'll have to replace wheels cause I sanded excess flashing. Wanted to go to oil anyway. Been thinkin bout addin fenders also. Car was running 2.41x on a 42' plastic track.

I guess the purpose of this class is to be an entry level for scout racers?

When I first saw Box Stock as a class I pictured a car made from out of the box parts only, that's how many scouts are required to do it. It was just a mental image I had.

I can build a car to any specs you write. I just don't know if I'll be fast!

Soon....

It is meant to be all out of the box. However it is impossible to determine the origin of the wood. All the other rules were put in place to try and help minimize the changes to already built cars. It is a cool class and you can make a very fast car with all box stuff but it does take some effort.

Mine is all out of the box besides the red wheels grandson seen at scout store. (Blue Ridge Council) Car is black and red. Wheels in box didn't have near the excess flashing.
I thought this class is out of the box parts. So I take it. If you want fenders. It needs to be from the same block of wood. I still have top half of block. If I want to try it.

No. Take a look at the pic of the top 4 in Box Stock and you see Gee fenders.

Think of this class like a typical scout class. Built by scouts and their dads, who don't spend extra money on turned wheels.

Personally, I'd like the inclusion of stock MV wheels, as that is the box stock kit we're using in our Trail Life troop. (But I still have a tube of BSA wheels, and the wheels used in the first version of the car in my avatar [straight outta the tube, but painted spokes and letters])

Oh I noticed the last years GEE fenders on WK Creations car. One of my cars is in that picture you know /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

Right between the ones with fenders. Oh, had I known! Next time. Next time.

Q.T had said this on Jan 28th
Fenders are Okay. I'll make changes to the rule's. New class some bugs to work out. There are a lot of scout racers out there that use them. This class is geared more towards them I don't want them to have to tear their cars apart to race. Thanks for pointing that out!

It gave me enough time to build a different B-S car. I won't be running this class again I got a little crap for it, I thought more guys would be running it but I think I understand the intent here. I truly like to build with out of the box parts as it makes me really appreciate a machined part. I like the concept of the class and I think it's really great that QT gives a free set of custom made BASX wheels away to the fastest new guy. Cram is going to do very well in this league in all the classes just make sure to watch the rules and take advantage of all speed that is found in each rule

Bulldog, you shouldn't have taken any crap from running that class. Joel had said before that anyone was welcome to try it and see how they do. But like you said, it's only the fastest new guy that is eligible to win the prize. I was planning on trying it once myself.

If I were you, I would keep running in it. I myself, am not going to run in it because of the wheels and axles. I really just need to focus on my prep or BASX and SS. Once I do become competitive, I will branch out. BG, you should keep going. Its your next evolution, and you path to being the top dog...

I think you should keep running it as a pace car. Gives the guys something to aspire to. Otherwise they have no idea how they might compare to the other classes.

I'm going to run in it. Heck, even though I've been hanging out here for four years, I've only entered (and caboosed) a handful of SR races. I'm still just a poor scout dad at heart.

Microbrush hit on a good point and another reason I was more than glad to see Bulldog and WK Creations in that class. How else would I have known where I really was at had they not been there?

So you go right ahead Bracketracer. Win or lose, probably lose but that's really ok, I will enjoy racing with you.

Bulldog, you should keep sending your car in!

I'm hoping to finish a box stock and BASX car for the next race, how will I know if I've done a good job unless I have a chance to compete with the current top dog in the class?

LOL, you all are great, the times are established. Sub 3 is a good time for that class, and WK hit a track record at 2.9794 and if his car would have held the steer he would have destroyed the competition.
