Well I was in panic mode Sunday to get my car done, I've been wrestling the paint couldn't get it to stop Orange Peeling, finally decided to just sand it, then buff it! Then I couldn't get my DFW to spin nicely (as everyone says you can hear it). Messed with it and messed with it, spilled a bottle of Johns Oil! (saved about half) thought I had it and then thought ahh Monocoat would look professional over the weights! Thought I covered the rear wheels and nope! cooked a wheel! But I had already used my extra wheel to replace my bad DFW! OMG No racing for me!!!
So then I went to help setup the 6 lane track for Mid-America and the new 4 lane. Snagged Batman, but I didn't have rears for BlackIce, So I quickly prepped a set of rears (nitros 1.3) for Mid-America. Got there, put them on the track and batman ran 3.01 (completely stock) and BlackIce ran a 2.945!!! ahhhhhh my day is better! And I have it on Video. I'll try and post it later, its really bad! taken from the start section and sideways! lol As for racing this Saturday, I'll see if I can get a set yet!! working on it!
So how much will the rear 2grams slow down the car from the 1.3grams? Only the rears!

Hey Ice,

Nice work on those new cars!

Black Ice looks great. I have heard BR say that the car will only travel as fast as the slowest wheel will allow it.

It's impossible to say how much you'll gain or lose with a different weight of wheel. I'll bet almost no one test's different weight wheels on the same car, but I could be wrong on that. Good luck! /images/boards/smilies/thumb.gif

Oh man. I've had days like that.

I'm terrible with paint, so monokote is my savior. However, I use the trim sheets that have adhesive on the back so it doesn't need to be heated. As a side benefit, the trim sheets come in derby friendly quantity so you don't end up spending $15 dollars on a role. A single trim sheet costs about $3 dollars and will cover 5 or 6 cars - by which time you'll be sick of that color.

You guys are gonna laugh when I say this, but I think that the quality of the raw bore that you start with matters more than a half gram of wheel weight. I cut some 2.4g wheels and some 2g wheels and ran them. I ran them one at a time on the test car as shown by txchemist on here. Out of a half dozen of each weight, some of the 2.4g wheels could outrun some of the 2g wheels. I saw as much as a .010 difference on the test car between the two. Now the trick is going to be in IDing the "fast" bores or whatever condition it is that caused the difference.

Not laughing at all, do you have a good way to look inside the bores and try to visually inspect? The fastest way to find the "breakthrough", is to inspect the two fastest wheels and the two slowest wheels of each weight and try to find what sticks out. Then you know what to look for when you do your bores.

I have a microscope that is able to focus down in the bore. It's a 10x objective lens with a 10x eyepiece. I need to try the 4x eyepiece but I put it in a safe spot. /images/boards/smilies/wink.gif

I think we all have a safe spot, but I call that a black hole, because once it's there I'm not going to find it again. /images/boards/smilies/biggrin.gif

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
