OPARENNEN said:Great story. Similar to mine 3 years ago. Helped an AZ grandson who went from Pack, District and Council, winning huge trophies. Some one steered me to DD4H's site. Read about it and viewed photos. There was a race in one week, so I went to SLC, UT and brought my grandson's car. We ended up in next to last place, but I was hooked. John (DD4H) spent a day with me the next day telling me why my car was so slow. So I entered possibly the next 10 or 20 events. BELIEVE ME, THESE GUYS ARE SUPER FAST! In the next three years, I have only taken ONE first place in the BSA class (we call it SS).
So enter the August event. After that, phone and ask John (or anyone else who's car you see that impressed you) for advice. You will be pleased on how helpful these guys are. No one has ever given me a false "red herring" advice.
At the top of this page, you will see "Private Messages". We call it PM. Every one of us are there. PM anyone. But first enter your car so you can see how it stacks up. In looking at your car's pictures, I would advise you to enter BASX, the class that's very close to most BSA rules. You could also enter one of your cars in SS amateur or novice class. Most of the cars in this class have fenders and lighter wheels than BSA or BASX cars.
Welcome aboard.
thanks for the post and great advice!! i plan on building a new car or two after spending more time on this site gathering information. yep i will be asking questions so please be patient with me LOL!!
the cars shown will be retired except to race in the local vintage class (cars that have raced before on that track) one more time.
side note: many of the guys congratulated me and said they now have to step it up but the two local fastest guys really had a stone face attitude -- like i had cheated or something. i guess they didn't mind that their cars had four wheels touching and did the wiggle of death down the track.
