New Organization -- Want PWD-type Race

Due to the BSA policy changes, our pack and troop have transferred our membership to Trail Life USA (please no posts on the stupidity/selfishness/phobia/un-Christ-likeness/etc. — I'm just establishing the situation)

1) I'd like to have a Pinewood Derby-ish race. Being that we have severed ties with the BSA, I'm guessing that we may not want to purchase BSA kits. Aside from AWANA's Grand Prix kits, are there any other kits out there (sorry, from what I've heard, I'll pass on the Royal ****** cars)?

2) If you could build up a spec kit from scratch (block, wheels, and axles), what would you spec?

TIA,
- Eric

Ahhhh decisions, decisions.

hmmmm. wooden wheels? no

soda caps? no.

yeah. probably Max V, and a bit of balsa and a bit of pine/ birch/ or bass.

That is me. I bet wooden wheels could be cool too though.

If I remember right, 5 kids on his website sounds like they provide kits to their scouts for their races. He might know what they put in their kits as a good starting point....

I wasn't aware of the Max V self-branded kits. Thanks, BR.

It'd be quite cool if DD4H had a kit like that... I'm sure that getting/setting up wheel molds is the toughest part. True wheels. Material. Consistency.

Then again, this is an opportunity to potentially become THE supplier for this new scouting organization. *hint* *hint* /images/boards/smilies/smile.gif

If you aren't going to go with BSA wheels then I would get the Max Velocity kits for sure.... You are not going to compete head to head with the BSA parts sold through DD4H, but as far as a kit goes it is has the best raw parts and it is cheap. I wouldn't even consider Awana or Pinecar kits....

+1 on 5kids comment. He's right on with this.
