OK, got the cars back and the track came in also. I just finished re-prepping the last car tonight and they will go out tomorrow.

After a few very late nights this week, I got the track set up. The K3 timer is awesome, although it seems like I'm missing something without that 10,000th digit like John, not that it matters for me though. The Owens mod and the auto start gate turned out way better than I had imagined! The auto gate worked perfectly, it opens fast and very soft impact, no bounce back, and times seem very consistent. I used rubber grommets to attach the solenoid bracket to the track and Best already had some weather stripping pads. The Owens mod is a great touch. When I put the gate back up, it just rolls up the bearing and snaps back into the same position every time, wasn't expecting that! The timer switch adds just enough additional resistance to hold it nicely in place...I actually never have to touch the manual start handle.

Also had to run a few cars down the track a few times...ok, actually a lot of times. Then I "had" to make some mods to the cars trying to get some more speed. But as you can guess, I actually made them slower...we'll see how that turns out for me this weekend! lol I may need to polish the track more, I think its making my wheel edges rough. I think I was faster before I got this thing, hope it turns around!

The cool thing was that my boys came out and thought the track was awesome. They pulled out all their cars from Cubs the last few years and had a little tournament going with a race off! They loved the remote cord start switch. They were laying down at the end of the track, starting the race and eyeing the cars watching for wiggles...like their Dad! lol My youngest wants me to order a bunch of blocks so he can start making cars.

Thanks to all the guys that helped me with the tips, such as the Owens mod and the 5js plans for the start gate!

Another one to the test tracks. Man I have to get one of those. But I dont think the wife would like a new test track sitting beside the new PS4. Maybe Santa will bring me one?!

Hey Bullet. I had the same experience. Got my track and all my cars got slower! My second place car is off by .003-.004. Probably has more to do with the big scratch in the bore than the new track. I just don't have a spare wheel to replace it with at the moment. My track was also making my wheels rough. Guess I need to go back over the track and sand it again...

This month's race could be a disaster. My 10th place car from last month is now my fastest car!
Good luck...

I may have to express ship a car I've been holding out...if I can get it ready in time. I'm hoping my track just got slower from one day to the next, my wife parked her wet car (raining) right next to the track and increased the humidity? My elim slowed the most, like a tenth from the first run....others slowed like 5 thou. We shall see how it goes!

If you guys are getting your wheels cut up, did you bevel the leading edge of the guide rail on the downrange track section?

Thanks for the info John... last night I dry sanded it with 2000 grit through the pledge I didn't get totally cleaned off , then cleaned with non-ammonia window cleaner, then re-pledged. Haven't tried it yet, but will go to the wet-sanding with the Bullet next if needed.

Thanks!

Finally ordered a track but I have a couple of questions. Do I need to order 2 stop sections (80") ? Does anyone know what starting gate is used on league track? I need to order a remote start and am not sure which one to buy.

Thanks

I would order two stop sections of you are doing a 35' track, maybe not needed if you are doing 42', but if you have room, it would be nice to have. The start gate on the league track is a custom roller bearing gate with laser timer start...built by Quicktime I believe.

I have a 42 footer. I would opt for the double stop if you have the room hatfam, but especially if you're going to be running razor wheel cars. I started with a single and placed a big towel at the end. Some of my cars ended up in the towel so I ordered the second section. I don't quite have room for a full second section so I need to trim off about 10" before I can install it.
