OK, got the cars back and the track came in also. I just finished re-prepping the last car tonight and they will go out tomorrow.
After a few very late nights this week, I got the track set up. The K3 timer is awesome, although it seems like I'm missing something without that 10,000th digit like John, not that it matters for me though. The Owens mod and the auto start gate turned out way better than I had imagined! The auto gate worked perfectly, it opens fast and very soft impact, no bounce back, and times seem very consistent. I used rubber grommets to attach the solenoid bracket to the track and Best already had some weather stripping pads. The Owens mod is a great touch. When I put the gate back up, it just rolls up the bearing and snaps back into the same position every time, wasn't expecting that! The timer switch adds just enough additional resistance to hold it nicely in place...I actually never have to touch the manual start handle.
Also had to run a few cars down the track a few times...ok, actually a lot of times. Then I "had" to make some mods to the cars trying to get some more speed. But as you can guess, I actually made them slower...we'll see how that turns out for me this weekend! lol I may need to polish the track more, I think its making my wheel edges rough. I think I was faster before I got this thing, hope it turns around!
The cool thing was that my boys came out and thought the track was awesome. They pulled out all their cars from Cubs the last few years and had a little tournament going with a race off! They loved the remote cord start switch. They were laying down at the end of the track, starting the race and eyeing the cars watching for wiggles...like their Dad! lol My youngest wants me to order a bunch of blocks so he can start making cars.
Thanks to all the guys that helped me with the tips, such as the Owens mod and the 5js plans for the start gate!
