Pack and district results

We did major axel work and some wheel polishing. Thin body with cubes in rear. In pack he got first in Webelos and 1st over all. Last year with just plain axels he got 1st in Bears and tied for 3rd. Times this year were 3.3s. In districts he got 3rd in Webelos and 7th overall. Same times.

How to improve? Car was 4 on the floor no steering, canted rears. Also when running on other tracks his car developed a wobble that was not present on our pack track, which was also used for the Webelos district run.

May or May LT do council. I have an out of town marathon weekend I photograph.

It is really hard to say without knowing your rules and guidelines. However, if his car is not aligned that is where I would start.

A lot depends on your rules. You've already mentioned some major areas to gain speed in your post. Going to 3 wheels, steering, and drilled canted rears if you used bent axles will help, if your allowed to do that. Steering will also help eliminate wobble, which can be from a variety of reasons but if it was only doing that on a different track, I would suspect a dirty and/or less than ideal fitted track. If you post your rules, you will find all the speed you need through help on this forum.

Required 4 on floor. No Bent axels. Stock wheels and axels graphite only. We extended the wheelbase as slots were not required.

We used a silver billet and drill press to drill canted rears and the straight fronts.

In the premium section there are two videos on how to build and tune the best 4 wheel touch steering car. Being that your rules are so limiting, if I was you, I would start there. The price is a bargain compared to the time and effort you’d spend trying to figure it out. There are also jigs or pre drilled blocks for steering without bent axles.

I updated the post, you may need to look into the jigs or pre drilled blocks that are angled for steering

Maybe try to post a pic of the car as well. Some of the more skilled eyes then mine on here are good at noticing areas that can be improved.

I was thinking the same thing. Most would say you don't want graphite on the wheel tread. If that's from the track, it was filthy. If you applied it, that could be a big contributing factor to the wobble.

I had cleaned the wheels as best I could. The tracks were filthy. I had cleaned ours after setup.

The car setup looks pretty good to me with the rules you have. If your going to be doing any more racing with that car I would ideally look into derby dads pro wheel tread cleaner or make sure you wiped them down really really well with alcohol wipes or something similar to get as much off as possible, which it sounds like you may have already tried, and hope the track is clean. In the future I would get a jig that allows for steer or a predrilled block to steer and hopefully avoid the wobble.

Thanks for your input all. Last year he wanted a cool looking car (that happened to be somewhat fast) this year he was all about speed.

We still made it look cool by hydrodipping. It got manhandled a lot by the other race officials and dads.
