Pack and district results

The third place car in my pack won districts last year. (The two cars ahead of him crashed into each other in the finals.)
No crashing. I'm not denouncing her win by any means. My scientist brain isn't wrapping around the logic that a 3rd place car beat out 14 cars of equal or higher placement in previous races. I know her division and finals were run on the same track. Finals were supposed to be on the track I ran, but our 15+ yr old timer was on the fritz from rough handling and being under a skylight. Other ranks ran on different tracks as well. One of the other top finishers also ran all races on the same track.

So pure chance, or somehow the track operators software ended up averaging out times including den runs rather than just finals? We use DerbyNet, with some modifications on a RPi3 for our track, they used a general out of box software.

There were 4 tracks total. A 3 lane woody for fun, two 3 lane tracks that were floor level (attaches with with allen keys) and ours, a 4 lane raised (bestrack). I spent probably an hour making sure ours was level, flat and straight, then wiped down the lanes. The others assembled on the floor and called it a night.

I hear you, its weird, just not sure its shenanigan-level weird.

My son's tiger year we were still bending our rear axles and didn't narrow the DFW side. The car's times were all over the map. He had eight races between Tigers and Pack Finals. Set the course record twice, had four solid runs, and two awful runs.

Because he had one great and one terrible run in both his den and his pack, he won his den and lost the pack by .001. (I was devastated; he was so excited he smoked the other Tigers he was on cloud nine). Anyhow, if he'd had both his bad runs in his den race and both his good runs in the finals, I think he might well have placed third in den and definitely would have won overall.

So, this feels like a crazy outcome but not an insane outcome to me, if that makes any sense.

That does, which is what I was thinking, Her brother's car I think placed 2nd in his den didn't place in overalls. My son's car was pretty darn consistent in times. Slower in overalls because of the shoddy track setup and dirty wheels. On one lane every car had a major wobble.

If there is one thing I learned from our pack race this year, it's that anything can and usually does happen!

Still, that is incredible! I'm assuming you couldn't touch your cars between rank and finals, so it's love to know how this happened. Never seen anything like it. Maybe her car IS magical. In our pack, cars that are fast in the den level are fast at the pack level with times around the same they raced in the den. You can look at the den results and pinpoint who will be in the finals and in the running to be the winner. It's like clockwork.

Anything can and does happen, but that's hard to fathom an answer for. Running multiple runs pretty much eliminates only the most amazing lottery winning luck. Maybe they had applied WAY WAY WAY too much graphite and it took a while for it to break in a shed the excess. Even that seems crazy. But I'm very happy for her!

The race chairs and I were all joking that am that it would be great if one of the only 3 registered girls won the whole thing.
That makes it more amazing! Not saying girls can't race, but that out of a field featuring only 3, one defied the odds and a 3rd place finish to win it all!

Not sure how others feel abut girls in the scouts, but I'm personally all for it! My daughter is a Tiger Cub, and has tagged along for years with her brother with the knowledge that she wouldn't be able to join when old enough. She loved it more than he did! So it was awesome when they allowed girls in and she joined.

She is racing districts on April 6. I'm curious to see how many other girls are there, but venture to bet it will be the same story. She may be the only one, there may be three. Who knows.

I don't think we will win, but we plan on trying. To be the first girl champion of our district would be a great story and real honor! But I will be happy if we don't come in last. Heck, I'd be happy with last as long as she had fun and was happy.
