Packing Graphite

I came across a web site that sells a tool for packing graphite into your wheels. If you're running in a race where you're not allowed to lube your car between races. They claim packing the axle whole in the wheel will make the graphite last longer, thus allowing your car to run faster for a longer period of time. Just curious if anyone has used this?

Here's a video of the product.

This guy also made an earlier video where he was just dry packing.

Nope, and never will. That guy is a joke. Has no proof on anything he does. Wont race in the NPWDRL. I heard he raced in Texas and TxChemist smoked him. He also has videos on derby dust graphite where he smears it on a plastic card. Still not sure what that proves. If you search this forum you'll find the best ways to prep for graphite. The problem with graphite is it wears off. But there's good news. As I can attest for DD4H's graphite, it is by far the best on the market. Not only does it test it against other graphites, he has hard numbers as proof. Not just a rub test that that guy uses, and he wont even use DD's graphite in any comparison. Most graphite cars best runs are runs 2-7 and you see a speed drop off 8-10. My sons car actually gained speed in runs 9-12 and was the most consistant (using DD4H's lube of course). Do a search for graphite prep and you'll find everything you need to know. Don't worry, most on here at one time bought into the gimmicks.

Obsessed

My question wasnt about the lube. I already use DD4H lube. I was talking about the packing.

Anyway, thanks for the tip on the graphite prep search.

I know it wasnt about the lube, your question was about packing and the "theory" behind it was that the packing would let the graphite last longer. I was just stating you dont need to pack it with DD4H graphite as it already lasts longer than most. But I personally have never packed by wheel bore and never needed to.

Just to be clear, I beat a guy using the packing method, not the actual packing guy. {but I have no doubt in my mind Mr. Packing would get smoked in the Novice class}. But that was a guy bringing a knife to a gunfight against oil. More to the point would be- Where would he show up in something like the graphite class at Mid America- OH!, I know!- nowhere near the top.

The reason a successful coat of graphite comes from burnishing is that the larger particles must be crushed under some pressure to present a fresh surface of graphite to cling to the walls for a bit. The tiny particles in many graphite mixtures can smudge up a bit of plastic, but they cannot create the bond needed to hang on to the surface and allow planes of graphite to slip. If you just spin, spin, spin, it is very difficult to create enough spots of good slip to get the lowest friction. When you burnish, use about 2 pounds of force when you push down with the rod onto the wheel bore.

Obsessed, he should be getting faster, he is all over this forum now!

Either my son and I have taken a 1st place trophy since he was a wolf. He is now a 2nd year Webelos so this is his last race as a cub scout.

I was lucky to find someone local who taught me how to build a fast car. And we came out of no where to take the trophy's. Of course afterwards, they came to me to ask what I did. After I told them I had to up the game. Your advice and your forum have taken us to the next level. So thanks to all of you for your help.
