Has the wheel bore size changed this year? I've never had a problem with my hub tool fitting, but I'm forcing it in this year's wheels and feel like I may be causing damage and or causing the bore to expand when I don't want that to happen???

Maybe it's a good thing to expand the bore size???

Thoughts?

Depending on the mold number, the bore size varies from around .096 to .098".

I would not force it in.

Hmmm, was afraid I might get that type of reply. I may have two more wheels in the "reject" pile now. I didn't think I had much choice b/c I wanted to shave the wheel down and round. At least they will have plenty of company in the pile.

I have seen this before, the tip of the tool is cupped to aid in punching a holes in the sand paper to possibly true the inner hub. The tip of the tool can mushroom and cause a tight fit in the wheel bore. To correct this sand the tip of the tool with some 600 grit and the wheels should fit on the tool. The smaller wheel bore is definitely preferred.

PS - I don't use the DW tools anymore and recommend lathe trued wheels for top performance.

Sorry to be blunt, but would highly recommend not using that shaver. The only good use I can think of for the hub tool is polishing it like an axle and using it to burnish in graphite if graphite is required. If you are going to use the shaver still polish the hub tool, otherwise more damage will occur in the hub than the 10% chance of improvement hoped for. I bought that piece when I first got into PWD so I'm speaking from experience. I feel like I got pretty good at using it, but if I don't have DD4H wheels I've had better success with properly prepped stock wheels.
