Ok Ill Be Ordering Tonight, But Now Im Unure If I Want The Drill Or The Proxxon Mill Will The Mill Do EverythIs It Worth The Extra?ing The Drill Does (Drill Axle Holes) And More is

I think GX has one of those mills.

Not sure if he uses it to drill axle holes or not.

It looks like the RPMs might be fast for drilling axle holes. Not really sure.

What speed do you fellas use when drilling?

Thanks,

SoGone has one of those mills. I looked at it, and if I had it to do over again, I would get the mill. It does both drilling and milling of weight pockets, body holes, etc. I will also do the wheel holes.

my main concern is to make sure the mill will have the same tolerances as the drill, to ensure a proper drill job, the mill is only like 75 bucks more than the drill once you buy the table with it (my understanding is the table comes with the mill)

thanks for the input guys, keep it coming ive yet to decide 100%

Get the mill, you can't mill with the drill, but you can drill with the mill.

I've drilled most of my cars with the mill, takes a little bit to set things up but once you do it's real easy.

There has been a ton of discussions around here regarding drill presses.

I don't want to talk you out of a Proxxon Drill Press, but when I bought my press, I did assume that I would have other uses for it, other than PWD. In my own research, it seems that Proxxon was more or less geared for the hobbyist. I went with the Skil 3320 instead. It is true that the "Block" did help me increase speed (you'll see the increase in "Ghost" this weekend), but in reading a lot on using the "Block", the accuracy of the Proxxon was not an absolute. There are some here who use a good press, not a Proxxon, and are very competitive. Here is a few threads on "Drill Presses" worth reading in case you want to consider alternatives; it has the advantages and dis advantages of the Proxxon

One more thread about the necessity (or rather, lack there of) of a perfectly square table

can you explain what you mean about it takes some time to set it up, is this a every drill set up or once you verify square you dont have to redo everytime

Hey DC,

Not to speak for those fellas but I like to talk so:

I think Opa meant to say AXLE holes no wheel holes. (He was probably rushing)

GX said : It takes SOME time to set up, not SOME MORE time to set up.

He probably meant the first time you set it up for each operation. drilling/ milling

In other words: just like a drill press

One thing I have wondered about is:

I think I saw a photo by Jimmy Owens (a moderately handy fella) that showed some type of hand tapper that he was using for drilling axle holes.

Was I hallucinating?

Thanks

PS. Please correct me if I spoke out of turn GX and Opa.

I too am sold on the proxxon and though I don't have one yet I plan to git the miller and not just the driller. The benefit of being able to mill the weight pockets, mill the body, and to drill the axle holes is worth the extra money in my opinion.
