Proxy Racing issue

I sent a car to race with PWDR, overall a good experience for my first Proxy race.

My issue is the damage to my car. Nothing they did, but what my shipping foam/box did. I used the recommended shipping method, but the foam block on top was like sand paper to my finish. Does anyone know what would cause this?

I was able to sand it down and re-clear the car, but I don’t want to do this after every race.

One of the posts I read on here said that when marking the foam for cutting, mark off one side of the car then move the car slightly over that line and then mark the other side. It tightens up the fit of the foam so it's secure. Hope that makes sense?

I've been using the legend shipping boxes without any issues and multiple cars with never an issue. The car has to fit snug in the foam as mentioned. I know you can't "uncut" the foam in the box, but you could wrap the car with some tissue or foam wrapping for additional protection in the areas of your concern. This would snug up the car in the foam.

The damage could have come from just the pressure of the foam. Sometimes you may think that your paint is fully cured but its not. I have had several cars with indentations from the foam, because of soft paint.

I put shipping tape on the foam where it contacts the car so it is slick. If the clear is not cured for sometime it will leave marks no matter what you do.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have some extra foam; I will recut and make it tighter for sure. I also like the idea of wrapping it something. I was just trying to make it as easy as possible on the guys unpacking and repacking the cars.

As far as the paint not being cured, that is a possibility. I have a couple of weeks before it will ship again, hopefully it will be cured before that.

That used to be a problem for me. I just changed paints to a fast drying type, especially the ClearCoat.
OR let it cure for a month!!!!!

That's a good point.... you have to use a high density foam that is somewhat flexible, but doesn't compress much. In the past I used a foam that I had to replace ever couple times I shipped because on thin cars the foam compressed and the car got sloppy in the carrier. Doesn't pay to go with anything other than the high quality foam that DD4H sells.

I've packed my cars tight and good ... Sometimes the clear coat damage is due to heat!
angry
When the cars ride in back of a truck or in the bottom of a plane. It seems that spot that the foam rides on gets even hotter.

Black Minicell Closed Cell Foam
I'm pretty sure it was a matter of my clear coat not being cured. I cleared the car this past Sunday and it was still a little soft last night. After thinking about it, the cars I sent to Mid America where packed the same way with no damage. I will make sure it is packed tighter using the method off of DD4H DVD.
